What my license means to me
When I get my license I will be driving everywhere I will be driving all around the town of Vernon. I will drive my sister everywhere to dance class, to school. When I get my license my mom will make me drive to the food market. I see myself as a cautious driver but a very impatient driver. My attitude toward driving is freedom and I feel it’s more convenient. Having your license is Being able to give other people a lift , Being able to* transport things which would be too much to carry , Being able to get to somewhere quickly (especially in an emergency) ,Being able to get somewhere that public transport doesn't cover ,Keeping dry if it's raining, cool if it's hot, warm if it's cold ,In some cases travel by car is cheaper than public transport. The one of the merits of having it is that you can be free completely from the dependence on your parents so you can go everywhere, and enjoy your private life more than ever. In addition, you can use the driver license as an important document* to prove your identification easily so you do not need to worry about proving yourself anymore when you submit something. Having to rely on your parents to drive you places is a hassle because you have to work around your parents schedule but when you can drive your self-places its easier. I don’t consider myself accident prone because I am very careful person. Temptation I think I will have when I get my license is going to be wanting to go places but not having enough gas money. If I am ever stuck behind a car that is going* awfully slow and I am late for work, I would call my boss and tell him I am stuck in traffic so I will be a little late. If one of my friends refuses to put there seatbelt on I will refuse to drive them anywhere, unless they agree to buckle up. To keep myself calm from panicking if my car ever fails to work I would just breath and get to the side of the road as fast as I can and just turn off my car or call triple A, Or call my parents for help.* If anyone is to open any alcoholic drinks in my car I will tell them to immediately throw it away I will not have any one drink in my car. If I ever get tired and I’ve been driving for a very long time I will do anything to wake myself up. I will play my music real loud, I will stop and get a cup of coffee, anything to wake myself up. If any of my friends decide to mistreat my car they will not be able to ride in it and I will not be afraid to kick them out.* If I am ever challenged to a drag race I will shake my head no so the other person understands that I will not drag race. I will also not play the game chicken. I will always slow down at a yellow light I am not going to risk the chance of getting my license taken away. If any incident happens with another car I will write their license plate down and call the police especially if the give me a rude gesture.* If I was to let any one drive my parents car I don’t think they would like that, but if I was very tired or if I couldn’t function to drive I think my parents would understand that I need to get home safe. I think I possess a personality trait of being careful and safe.

Murakami utilizes first person narrative to reveal the progression of alienation through personal thoughts and the TV people, as they are a symbol of new technology in the lives of Japanese people and in the life of the protagonist. At the beginning of the short story the readers straight off get a look into the inevitable alienation that the protagonists feels. When the main character comes home, his wife is “is go[ing] out with the girls” (198), he is being left alone for dinner and thats when the TV people arrive which commences his downfall into isolation. When the tv is originally brought in they tend to clutter everything out of place, this can contribute to highlighting that the technology of modern ages has provided chaos in the lives of Japanese people. The narrator feels “thrown off balance, that [his] customary world is no longer…
