Drinking Age Should Be 18
According to ProCon.org in 2016, did you know that traffic accidents related to drinking are most common to new drinkers regardless of the minimum legal drinking age (MLDA)? Or, that in countries with the MLDA 18, there is a huge decrease in drunk driving accidents than in the USA? I believe that you can drink responsibly at eighteen; therefore, the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen. I believe the MLDA should be eighteen because when you are considered an adult and have many other responsibilities, the MLDA 21 is highly ineffective, and lowering the age would diminish the thrill of breaking the law.

According to the MADD Saving Victims Organization, there is a story published in 2013 about a girl named Hannah Evans who went to a NYE party and got drunk. She got in the car with a driver who was highly intoxicated with a BAC of .208; soon after, they got into a fatal crash because she was scared to tell her parents that she broke the law and she was seeking the thrill of drinking underage. Over 5,000 kids under twenty-one die every year in the US because they see drinking as a forbidden fruit (Cognac). According to ProCon.org published in 2016, its editors state that eighteen is the age of adulthood and many responsibilities come with that age. Some of the responsibilities include going to war, buying a home, getting married, signing contracts, and voting. I believe if that you can make the decision to act as a responsible member of society in many other ways, you should be able to drink. Drinking is a big responsibility, but I think people can drink responsibly and enjoyably as adults if the drinking age is eighteen.
Although there are many good reasons why the MLDA should be changed, there is also a negative side. When you are eighteen, your brain has not fully developed. Drinking while your brain is not fully developed can cause damage to central nervous system and frontal lobes which is the part of your brain used for organization and self control (Cognac). Although, those side effects can be prevented by drinking in a responsible manner and not binge drinking.
