According to Jasper and Crossan (2012) is the "essential process for coping with external change (p. 838). Banner Health has long- term strategies divided into stages, and the organization prepares a Board and Management Strategic Initiatives Profile at the beginning of each stage. The Driving Strategies are five to seven goals the organization intends of achieving in a three to five years. The strategic report defines the pathway from the present to a desired future with a promise to sustainable advantage (Banner Health, 2015). Banner Churchill Community Hospital (BCCH) is one of 28 hospitals of Banner Health System located and operating in the small rural town of Fallon, Nevada (‘Banner Churchill Community Hospital,' 2015). In this paper, the student attempts to describe some of the areas of quality improvement opportunities at BCCH emergency room. Mission, Vision, Values

BCCH shares the nonprofit mission, vision, and values that identify Banner Health as a whole, all the facilities share these standards to work in unison and achieve organizational goals. Mission: "We exist to make a difference in people's lives through excellent patient care" (Banner Health, 2015, p. 1) Vision: "We will be a national leader recognized for clinical excellence and innovation, preferred for a highly coordinated patient experience, and distinguished by the quality of our people" (Banner Health, 2015, p. 1) Values: "People Above All … by treating those we serve with compassion, dignity, and respect. Excellence … by acting with integrity and striving for the highest quality care and service. Results … by exceeding the expectations of those we serve and those we set for ourselves" (Banner Health, 2015, p. 1). According to Spallina (2004), "the mission, vision, and values serve as the essential planning platform for strategy development" (p. 11). From these, the strategic team will develop strategies that will enhance and improve processes to achieve the organization's objectives through a specific timeframe or stage. Strategic Planning Model

Banner Health uses an alignment model of strategic planning with the purpose of ensuring the alignment of internal operations with the achievement of goals. The model's objective is to use key actions or strategic initiatives to achieve objectives and close the gap between measures and targets. The strategies have a beginning and end, and teams of individuals are assigned to lead these with a set budget – for Banner, a strategic initiative defines the annual plan to how execute the long-term plans. Self, Self, Matuszek, and Schraeder (2015), state that aligning the strategic planning of an organization is critical to fit with internal and external environmental factors. "Astute leadership requires a constant focus by management on making certain the right internal processes are in place (i.e. aligned)" (Self, Self, Matuszek, and Schraeder, 2015, p. 11). The alignment of an organization can be improved or linked through a balanced scorecard to provide a valuable perspective to staff how they can contribute to enhance the strategies. The second is knowledge sharing through human resources practices with the benefits of the organization moving quickly into various working models and the flexibility to move toward the acceptance of the change. The third and last is the value of total quality management by adjusting strategies that improve overall organizational alignment. Total quality management continues to be an effective approach to having the entire organization engaged in the continuous improvement of organizational processes and the alignment of those internal processes with available resources. Theoretical Framework

The theoretical framework related to a theory of change "defines the building blocks required to bring about a given long-term goal" (Center for Theory of Change, 2013, p. 1). Banner Health culture embraces change because...
