Down syndrome is a genetic condition that causes a delay in a child development mentally and physically. In every Eight hundred babies one is effect by Down syndrome. Down syndrome can form widely from child to child. Down syndrome has two affects to the person meaning that the child might need a lot of medical attention or lead healthy lives. Down syndrome cannot be prevented but can be discovered before the child is born. The condition of Down syndrome can be treated. (http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/genetic/down_syndrome.html). There are resources within the communities that will help the family who is living with a person with Down syndrome or is the person with Down syndrome. The way Down syndrome is caused is from the parents in the form of 46 chromosomes, 23 from the mother and 23 from the father. In most of the Down syndrome cases the child gets and extra chromosome for a total of 47 instead of 46. The chromosomal error that causes this cannot be prevented, but said by scientist and facts that women of the age 35 and older have a greater risk of a child with the condition of Down syndrome. For example a woman at the age of 30 had one chance out of nine hundred to produce a baby with the condition. As older as the women gets the greater/ higher the risk will be. After Birth of a child born with Down syndrome is usually born at an average size of a baby that is not born with the condition. Kids with Down syndrome share certain features such as a flat facial look, an upward slant to the eyes, small ears, and protruding tongue. The development of children with Down syndrome is slower then the children without the condition such as delays in speech, feeding, getting dressed and potty training.
