Dontae's The Wiz: The Lion
‘The Wiz’ told the classic tale of a young girl named Dorothy, who traveled to the Land of Oz and meets three new friends (a Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion). In the end, Dorothy returns home to Kansas. While performing in ‘The Wiz’, I had an amazing experience portraying the Mean Ole Lion. Although ‘The Wiz’ was a successful show, it could have not been a success without the things that made up the show. With things such as the technical side, costuming, and the props, ‘The Wiz’ would not have been as successful as it was. The costumes of the show were amazing. They made each person look like their actual character. My favorite costume of the show was my costume as the Lion. What really impressed me about my costume choice was the fur jacket I had over my Lion suit. I also loved how each of the main characters’ costumes were unique in its own way. My second favorite costume of the show had to have been The Wiz himself. Dontae’s costume was very unique as well. Since The Wiz himself was very grand, he had …show more content…
Whoever worked the lights and sound needed a little work. They cut lights on early that were not supposed to be cut on. In my opinion, during the Emerald City dance sequence, I feel like there should have been color changes on the lights. When the actors named each of the colors, such as green, red, and gold, the lights should have changed. That would have added more dimension to the scene and made it better. Overall, the lighting and sounds of the show were very nice. We just needed better people working them. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of performing in ‘The Wiz’. This show has encouraged me to do more. Out of all of the characters, my character was everyone’s favorite. I also made a lot of new friends throughout this process. I think Mr. Pettis did an amazing job on building the set pieces for the show. If it was not for him, the show would have probably been a

The character I chose to render a costume design for is Troy Maxson from the play Fences by August Wilson. Troy is the family’s main source of income and his character is a very strong willed and stubborn 53-year-old man. Troy relentlessly told his son, Cory, multiple times that his football recruitment was a waste of time and that he should get “…recruited in how to fix cars or something where he can make a living” (8; ch.1, sec.1). Therefore, from Troy’s actions, I knew that his costume should entail a sense of seriousness such as nothing brightly colored or crazy patterned clothing. Another area in the script that influences my costume choices was the setting of the play. The play was set on a dirty entrance of an old brick building house…

From the warm yellow light for a Christmas party on Christmas Eve, to the hue light with snow falling, the lighting and special effect played an important role in completing the world suggested by the ballet. And I must say that the part where lighting and special effects did it best job was the performance of the Prince, Clara and many other dancers when they get to the Land of Sweets, when the snow is falling, creating a wonderful and magical images. This was the only time that they used special effects with a white theme - white dresses, white snow, white and hue lights. What a nice ending to Act I!…

It was totally passable, and even enjoyable in some moments. Some of the actors were better then other, especially the woman who played the best friend. She had a lovely voice that to me carried the show. Everyone else was fine, with most being pretty good, and the main actress being only ok. She had some good songs, however, there were times that she was extremely pitchy. Honestly, that is all I can think of that I enjoyed at all, the rest of the show I found pretty unbearable. It was boring, poorly written, directed, and several times down right…

This change was made because the full-length performance was too long to memorize and we started making mistakes and forgetting whole segments past the halfway point, and because the portion that we ultimately performed contained many of the funniest moments in the show. Secondly, our final performance was performed on a built set in the drama room rather than in the library because the library was too large and was capturing our energy. Thirdly, our final performance had a much higher level of energy than our dress rehearsal. The comment we received the most after our dress rehearsal was that the overall energy was too low, so it was important for us to rectify it for the final performance. We did our best to address every comment we received, but it is possible that some concerns were not…

Over all this was a strong production. One thing I would like to see differently in another production of this is modified dialog so that it is easier to understand what is happening. I can learn how to upstage people and take status when it is needed and how to raise my voice and use space to my advantage. I can also learn how to show my characters personality and communicate when I am not the one talking and with the most…

First off, Set designer was limited when it came to the amount of space available on the stage, which is understood but they were things that could have been presented differently for instance, they were no real doors, the walls were cut off, one small lamp was presented but the spotlight over the dining table did not appear to come from a natural source, also an unknown blue light seemed to be coming from the small window to the left of the stage, which would be the faults of the lighting designer. Although the lighting designer did find rhythm between the change of scene to scene, the lights would slowly fade. The lights weren't too bright; the intensity was controlled. The lighting designer often used blue lights to signify late nights and early…

In addition, at the end of the show there was no feedback shown towards the crew on how they could improve before the next show. At the control room there was some chatter that could be heard into the studio but no one was communicating from my view of the team on set. The team cohesiveness was poorly displayed throughout the show since each person only cared about their own roles and very relaxed on the job. However, the show was still a success since it was put together very well and intrigued the audience to what was going on. The topic choice for the production as a whole was an excellent choice and helped shine a light on something that is rarely talked about in the industry of on screen film and television. Overall, the experience was pleasant and helped me learn about production management from how well the group works on set and the importance of it during a live…

I had the opportunity to help set up the lights for The Elves And The Shoemaker. There are over a hundred lights, every single one of them does something different for the show. Because every light is so important, every light must be adjusted and focused to properly complete its function. One thing that really impressed me is the transitions from day to night. With just the right adjustment of light it really felt like the actors were waking to a rising sun. you could really feel that sense of time. Working on the lights was a great experience for me and I now see the great amount of work that goes into light…

The show began straight off with a clown, who's comedy act -in my opinion- was far from funny, and by the silence of the audience, I guess they agree. However, later when you'd got used to the visual sense of humour he used (since he didn't really talk), he was easier to laugh at and young children erupted in giggles at his act. There were not a large amount of performers, and many doubled up, doing more than one act which would have worked better if they at least changed their outfits in between. On the other hand at least they worked with limited staff to the best of their ability and found performers with multi talents which would decrease their costs and increase their profit.…
