Gaetz explains in "The Pros and Cons of the President's Immigrant Travel Ban", “I wish so much that President Trump’s Executive order were unnecessary. I wish that we lived in a world that was more stable and secure, where America could welcome with open arms anyone from anywhere for whatever reason at whatever cost. But the reality is that American taxpayers can’t pay for everything, and American families cannot shoulder the risks of insecurity for the consequences of terrible foreign policy decisions that have been made over the last eight years” (14). Gaetz believes that much of the frenzy surrounding the travel ban is being created by the media and is convoluting the actual purpose of the travel ban. The travel ban is not exclusively about banning all Muslims, but to take a closer look at immigrants who are coming from countries that breed terror, discontent and anti-Americanism. Aaron David Miller, who is currently a Global Affairs Analyst for CNN, explained in “Why travel ban could backfire”, “Looking at the data since 9/11 leads one to the inescapable conclusion that the real threat to the US homeland comes not as a result of those recently admitted into the US as refugees, or with immigrant or nonimmigrant visas, but from home grown jihadis who have been radicalized here, and are either US citizens or legal permanent residents (paragraph 8). While it may seem that President Trump is trying to look out for the American people, it does not seem that we need to worry about those escaping war zones. The ones we need to be cautious with are those radicalized by the Islamic State, these individuals can be born in America or naturalized citizens. We do not have a test that can determine the true patronage of those that live in this country. The travel ban is targeting Muslims which could isolate and stigmatize American Muslims, which in turn could cause resentment towards the government. Banning an individual from freedom and safety based on the country of origin, is not what America is about and should not be
