Donald Trump Electoral Cartoon
The electoral cartoon that I chose was the one about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It show’s the two presidential candidates running at the moment playing twister. It’s my belief that the artist of the comic wanted to portray the pair as being malicious while also being childish about the election. I believe this because many people consider that the both of them have been handing the election unjustly and with aimless disputes. The cartoon depicts the two of them playing a game of twister with pungent expressions on their faces. The game of twister ultimately represents how they’re debating recently, similar to how children would in a kids game. Their sour faces illustrate how they argue about many topics and views, usually unprofessionally

The political cartoon by Nick Anderson depicts Ralph Nader standing at a podium addressing American society's "throw away mentality". Meanwhile a citizen in the background is casting her vote for the green party behind him. Ironically, the ballot drops into a waste basket, thus a wasted vote. We now realize that Nader is not talking about the environment, but addressing the issue of how the general public views votes for 3rd party candidates. This cartoonist feels that we should reform our views on 3rd party candidates and vote for who we think would make the best president, despite there chance of winning or not.…

The cartoon that I chose is called Border Security. I find it very interesting that the cartoonist chose this type of background. Also having Border Security, NOT, and Amnesty all highlighted in red. The text in this cartoon is very unique to its time, because of the major focus that has been on border control. I believe that the cartoonist targeted a specific type of reader in this cartoon. That type of reader would be the nave and ignorant people focused on this topic of boarder security and bringing up unreasonable ideas as to why we need more border control and to send them back to their country. I also find it interesting that in this cartoon the Native Americans are talking about border security to each other, about the Europeans, just to find out that the Europeans in the future kill, rape, and steal the Native Americans land and people. To me it looks like the cartoonist is trying to get a point across that we need to take a look at ourselves and what we stand by, or perhaps the cartoon just may be telling us that this is a cycle. When talking about the exigence of this cartoon, the fact that I believe everyone should open their eyes and try to relate toward each other is my main motivation on writing about this topic.…

This cartoon depicts First Lady Melania Trump holding a sign that reads,”Stop cyberbullying,Melania,” while little twitter bird icons are flying over her head. I think that the thesis of this political cartoon is that Melania’s anti bullying campaign is hypocritical because he huband bullies and name calls people on twitter. So I think that this political cartoon is calling that out and is saying that if she wants to make a difference with anti bullying campaigns, then she should start with her husband. This political cartoon relates to me life because President’s Trump bullying and malicious twitter behaviour is something that is reported often in the media and is something that affects all our lives as he is representation of our country and is the voice for all Americans and his bad behavior can have negative and maybe deadly consequences.…

On August 29th, 2008 Senator John McCain announced his decision of electing Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential Candidate. This declaration provoked controversy amongst many of the United States citizens and while the majority of the people supported McCain, there were still a select few of both the republican and democratic parties that were bewildered by his decision. They view Sarah Palin as ignorant and someone who could not play any significant part in running the United States government, and their scrutiny of her soon reached the public via television. Although entwined with humor, the Saturday Night Live vice Presidential debate clip is an example of the doubts society has on Palin’s experience.…

In the political cartoon there are 3 significant figures: Congress, Uncle Sam, and President F.D Roosevelt. They all have a different role in the cartoon, with Congress as a nurse or some who takes care of people, Uncle Sam as a patient who is depressed and sick, and FDR as the doctor who has to cure the symptoms of depression to the Americans. FDR gives Uncle Sam all the bottles which are the medicine that plays a role as a metaphor to all of the Acts and National Agencies. Cartoonist are saying that the Great Depression is a great tragedy misfortune so, FDR has a bag in his hand that says New Deal Remedies and he tells the Congress that changes can be made for the Remedies do not guarantee results. Son this also shows how FDR is an understanding…

There used to be a time when presidential candidates of all parties were well respected by each other and the citizens of the United States. It is like our society wants to see people fail and is only attracted to the negative. It seems that neither of these candidates are respected on any platform, and the whole campaign is full of hate. This is a terrible representation of our country to children, and is an embarrassing portrayal to other countries. The election is not some game where there is a ‘winning’ and ‘losing’ side, but this is to determine…

McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. In this poster the focal point is both candidates in the center of the poster with the U.S flag behind them. Both rivals are looking at each other and there is a quote that says “The American flag has not been planted in foreign soil to acquire more territory but for Humanities sake.” This quote expresses the idea of Manifest Destiny and the attitude of superiority the Nation felt over the others. In the background both sides the space is filled with three images on each side with different outcomes according to the party. In the left side the viewer can see the side “Gone Democratic” where the city is more industrialized in contrast with the other party side where horses are still used as a method of transportation. The second image is “A run on the Bank” where in the democrat side the viewer can observe people arguing in the other side the people seemed content. The last image describes the rule over Cuba in the left side is rule by Spain and in the right side is rule by America. These series of images show how the world might have been if William Jennings Bryan had instead won the White House on the Democrat ticket with closed factories, no railroads, plows rusting in the fields, a currency based on silver rather than gold, and Cuba before the Spanish American War, which was won during McKinley's first presidency in…

The use of logos was found throughout the whole article as he presents many statistical examples to support his argument. For example, Speel was talking about the drastic differences between popular votes and electoral votes; he gives an example about how Donald Trump won Pennsylvania and Florida with about 200,000 votes and earned 49 electoral votes. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton won Massachusetts by almost a million votes but earned only 11 electoral votes (Speel). Here, Speel is trying to expose one of the many flaws of the Electoral College by showing that it does not make sense that a candidate can beat their opponent by more than 800,000 votes in one state and still not get close to half the amount of electoral votes that their opponent got. Although the article is mainly full of logos, Speel was still able to insert some ethos and pathos. In the beginning of the article, Speel talks about Hillary Clinton’s promise about abolishing the Electoral college when she took office as the New York Senator. He next states that “She never pursued her promise – a decision that must haunt her today. In this year’s election, she won at least 600,000 more votes than Donald Trump, but lost by a significant margin in the Electoral College.”(Speel) Here, Speel effectively uses pathos to make the audience feel bad for Hillary Clinton because the one thing that she tried to get rid of was the reason why she lost…

The political cartoon depicts Ralph Nader addressing America’s "throw away mentality". Meanwhile a citizen in the background is casting her vote by dropping a ballot into a trashcan. This is a fairly pessimistic view on voting for third parties, as the cartoonist is showing that votes that are going for third parties are worth nothing. Because the vast majority of the country votes for major party candidates, third party candidates rarely become elected.…

The stimulus I have chosen is ‘Really Good Careers’ by Barry Deutsch a.k.an Ampersand; Barry Deutsch is a cartoonist who lives in Portland, Oregon in the United States of America; his cartoons appear in every issue of Dollars and Sense Magazine; he is better known for his graphic novel ‘Hereville’; published by Abrams in 2010. This cartoon was made in 2012 and the author drew this political cartoon (like all his other political cartoons) to raise awareness of issues that he cares about e.g. feminism, racism, poverty, immigration etc. The issue of equal pay in the workplace is being portrayed in this cartoon. Women are being portrayed negative way in this cartoon; with the author sarcastically stating that the woman in the cartoon has a chance of equal pay and equal opportunities in the workplace. This cartoon is clever because it states its point in a way that others wouldn’t.…
