Dolly Parton Song Comparison
Often, the lyrics to a song are what appeals to fans, and in a cover song, it is common to see some change in the lyrics from the original version. While most of the words are the same in both versions, in Houston’s cover version, the words “My darling, you…” (Houston), are present. This change emphasizes the difference of the intended meaning for the song. While both songs focus on a person, this version gives no doubt that there is a romantic interest involved. While the song ‘s origin may be specific to Dolly Parton, its sentiment remains universal. The woman in the songs knows a relationship is over, but still values the time she spent with the person she is leaving. She still wants the best for him. A main message of the song is that love

The words to Amazing Grace were written by John Newton (Ferris and Worster). The piece is played in triple meter (Ferris and Worster). It is usually performed slow (adagio), with the volume falling somewhere between moderately soft (mezzopiano) and moderately loud (mezzoforte). The combination tends to give the piece a somber, and yet comforting, quality. According to our text book, Music: The art of listening, the melody uses a pentatonic scale, which means it uses a “five-note pattern within the range of an octave” (Ferris and Worster).…

Senior year is like listening to a broken radio that repeats the same phrase over and over again. As an incoming freshman in college, we are still unable to throw this broken radio out. We've been forced to listen to the phrase "How are you going be successful in college?" I believe that everyone has a different definition of being successful in college. For me, being successful in college is keeping up with my grades and living my life to the fullest.…

The coming together of this project has really taught me a lot about the theater world as well as learning about just people in general. Why they do what they do, why they wear what they wear, and how to piece them together based solely on how they present themselves. In the coming together of my costumes for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone I first took the time to reread the play, get a feel for each character, their personalities, what other plays, TV shows or movies I could compare it to and what colors and patterns come to mind when visioning each person. When breaking all those aspects down I focused mostly on the show “Good Times”. “Good times” is pretty much around the same time period; some of the characters, for example, Zonia and Penny are similar in certain ways! They both are little children who don’t have the best of the best but their parents make sure they looked presentable. Or Florida Evans from “Good Times” who could be compared to Bertha, the mother of the house; they were both the furthering type, always there to support the young ones, give advice, and cook the meals.…

The story “The Michelle I know” by Alison Lohans and the song “Skin,Sarabeth” sung by Rascal Flatts has both similarities and differences in the phrases and lyrics. One of the similarities between the song and the story is that both the girls had Leukemia. They were both in the hospital and they were being treated for the Leukemia. Another similarity is that both of them had lost their hair because of the chemotherapy they had to go through. The most important similarities are that both of the girls were scared about what was going to happen but, they didn’t let the fear control them. The first difference that was found was that in the song Sarabeth was always thinking about dancing but, in the story Michelle can only think about how…

In the poem “Bonny Barbara Allan” the poet writes, “Will save me from my dying.” In this poem William loves Barbara Allan, but is denied by Barabara for a kiss to save him from dying. In the song “Don’t Let Me Down” the Chainsmokers sing, “Stranded, reaching out, I call your name, but you're not around. In the song they don’t want their companion to let them down, and not love them. In both the poem, and the song they want their love of their life to love them back. Another connection I made with the song and poem is when the Chainsmokers sang, “That you’ll be here, when I need you the most.” And the poet wrote, “I’ll die for him tomorrow.” In the end they both needed each other to live, therefore Barbara died for William, and after that the rose and the briar ran round each…

The title of the poem, “First Poem for You”, is an evidence that it was the first time she felt secure enough to express her desires in their relationship. This desires and wants are that their relationship should be adorable and long lasting just like his body tattoos. She is able to describe her intense love connection though touch and memory. Her words reveals the desire she has for this tattooed lover. The tattoos are less terrifying than the man, for they are permanent and will never change. After a difficult decision, out of the three unique and wonderful versions of Stormy weather, my favorite version was none other than the original version by Lena Horne. Lena feels the song when she sings it, she knows what it is like to be heartbroken and she portrays that in her song. Lena also makes you feel the song, she reminds you of the time you once had your heartbroken. The flow of the music is natural, it goes together well and does not sound broken up. My second favorite was the version done by Royal Crown Revue. I liked the jazzy upbeat music, it made me want to get up and dance. Although I enjoyed the music I did not feel that the song was about a heartbreak. Lastly the version by Reigning Sound was my least favorite, I did not…

Both pieces of music have similiarities but they also both have big differneces. One of the major and biggest differences between Big Mama Thornton and the Presley version is that Big Mama Thornton foregrounds the lyrics in her track while carefully enunciating and phrasing the words so that the listener can clearly hear the words.. Presley, on the other hand, simply makes the lyric a melodic line - he is happy to add vocal effects and whoops which add nothing to the story. Big Mama is also meticulous in delivering the risqué overtone of 'you may wag your tail' - whereas Presley carefully removes the sexual reference, replacing it with the frankly meaningless 'you ain't never caught a rabbit' which doesn’t make the lines worth them anymore.…

One of the similes in the song is “I found myself dreaming in silver and gold like a scene from a movie”.Silver and gold are very valuable, so she's saying he’s valuable to her. She is dreaming about the precious moments with her lover and she looks back at a romance movie. It relates to the topic because it shows how she’s comparing her love for him to an actual movie. Also, she wants him to know how she feels so she says “I’m gonna hold you like i’m saying goodbye”. She doesn’t want to lose his so she’s going to hold him tight and never wanting to let go. She is gonna hold him like it’s the last time…

I think the song is especially impactful when we realize that pain and beauty are two things that are linked. Beyoncé knows that it’s nearly impossible to divorce pain from the ideal feminine aesthetic. The lyrics and video discuss some of the processes women go through in order to be more beautiful: bleaching their hair, obsessively dieting all of these things are painful, and they contribute to beauty as society sees it. It’s nearly impossible to be conventionally beautiful without enduring some amount of pain. Suffering is complicated for females. Beyoncé isn’t trying to pretend she’s not beautiful. She’s also not trying to pretend that she doesn’t endure all of these painful processes. And because she shows beauty, she shows pain. Because we are so obsessed with physical perfection, we’ve forgotten how to take care of our souls. We think that hair removal and dieting will make us happy, but those things are just a distraction. We put ourselves through physical pain in order to achieve perfection, but these things don’t help with our internal pain. Instead, we hurt physically and emotionally. Throughout the song Beyoncé keeps mentioning “are you happy with yourself” meaning after all the things you have done to yourself surgeries, hair removal, waxing, dieting to the extreme. Are you really happy?…

Then, the first obvious difference is in the plot of the two songs. The plot of the first song is about the person who wants to be perfect, while the second song is about a couple who wants to always together. After that, the second difference is in the message of the two songs. Based on the song writer of the first song, Tedder said, “This song is about being happy with what we have in life, and not obsessing over what we don’t have. Whether, it’s a person or relationship, love, or success, or even fame.” But based on the song writer of the second song, Martin said, “This song compares how being lonely in the present isn’t same as…
