Dog Fighting Research Paper
Dog fighting is a type of bloodsport defined as two enemy dogs that fight against one another in a ring or a pit for the entertainment of the spectators or the satisfaction of the dogfighters. Fights are normally staged in barns or outdoor pits, garages, basements, warehouses, abandoned buildings, back alleys, neighborhood playgrounds, or in the streets. Dogfighting injuries include severe bruising, broken bones and deep puncture wounds. Worldwide, several countries have banned dog fighting, but it is still legal in some countries like Japan, Honduras, and parts of Russia.

Usually the fight takes place in a pit that is between 14-20 feet square. The sides are made of hay bales, plywood, chain links and other things. The flooring may be made of wood, dirt, carpet or sawdust.

Each dog will be weighed to make sure they are about the same weight, in a more organized fight. At the start of a fight, the dogs are released from opposite sides and usually meet in the middle, wrestling to get a hold onto the opponent. If they do, the dogs grab and shake to cause maximal damage. Handlers have the most right to touch the dogs until they are told by the referee. Both animals may suffer from injuries including puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones.

The sale of pups from parents who have won several fights is a major part of their activity for professional dogfighters. Many street fighters think they can make money by breeding and selling dogs, but most of them are killed or abandoned if they fail to perform. There are many breeds of dogs used for fighting world wide, but the main choice for fighting in the U.S is the American Pit Bull Terrier.
