Dog Fighting Argumentative Essay

Have you ever been hit or forced to fight when you don’t want to? If this has not happened to you then think about how you would feel if someone forced you to fight someone else. You would probably feel pretty terrible, getting hurt just because this person wants you to fight someone all for their entertainment. This is what some cruel humans do to animals like dogs usually pit bulls. Dog fighting is wrong and cruel because the animals get badly hurt and could possibly die, all for human’s entertainment and money.

In these fights the only people that are benefited are the dog fighters some examples of that are in Urban Dog Fighters Tough to Track. In this article it says, “The bet might be $100 or a pack of cigarettes.” The owner of the winning dog gets paid in some way. This is one example of how only the dog fighters are benefitted. It also says “Pit bull with fresh gashes to the head, throat or legs, wounds consist with dog fighting. A tangle of scars on the same body parts indicates ancient battles.” The pit bulls that fight in these battles actually get hurt and that these fights leave scars. The only thing that happens to the dogs that have to fight is get hurt. Lastly in this article it says “Street fighters also abuse their pit bulls to make them aggressive towards both people and other dogs, Ferris said. And that makes them dangerous for neighbors and animal control officers who have to handle abandoned or seized pit bulls, which are flooding shelters, crowding out other, adoptable breeds.” The owners of these pit bulls abuse them to make them aggressive and a threat to the community. So now the pit bull fighters aren't just hurting them, they are purposely trying to make them aggressive so they can come hurt us, so these fights also affect us humans. These are some ways only the dog fighters get benefitted even if it is the least bit.

When the dog fighters make their dogs fight they really don’t care about what

Dogs are man’s best friend, but let’s pay attention to the underdog here. Or rather, the under-cat. The nation is in a debate about which is the best pet, dogs or cats. Dogs are great, however, here’s the reasons why cats are superior. Cats are independent animals and can be left unattended. Cats are not raucous, unlike dogs. Cats can align themselves upright. Over the past half-century, the reputation of pit bulls has grown gradually worse. The breed that once represented America’s dedication and determination on recruitment advertisements is now “a status symbol in drug and gang culture” (Reed, 2008). This trend can be traced back to the 1980s when dog-fighting attracted widespread media publicity. Since then, reports of pit bull attacks has significantly increased, and these breeds are labeled as vicious killers, restricted by the society’s stereotypes. As a result, this topic has stirred up controversy as to whether or not a pit bull ban is an effective way to reduce and prevent more dog attacks in a specific area.…

Any dog that is neglected, treated poorly, and forced to fight is more likely to act aggressively towards not only other dogs but people as well. The ideology that one should not paint an entire group with the same brush or that one bad apple should not spoil the bunch can be applied to dogs as well. Much like the way that all citizens of some Middle-Eastern countries may be viewed as ‘terrorists’ following the attacks on America on September 11th, not all of them are. There are extremists from every group and ethnicity that could cause harm to others, but no single group is inherently evil. And so it is with animals. Should an owner train its dog to attack, the dog will attack—but a well-trained pit with a loving family could go its entire life without so much as a hint of aggression towards another animal. Simply put, dogs, like people, are nothing more than a product of their upbringing.…

Here’s a little history on the American Pit Bull Terrior, dating back to late seventeen hundreds, the Pit Bull Terriors were used for bull baiting, hunting, and as family companions. Some people think that Pit Bulls are inherently vicious but that is not true, Pit Bulls are only vicious if someone makes them that way. There are not bad dogs, only bad people. A pit bull is not inherently vicious, if they are aggressive and attack, either the person most likely deserved it or they were trained to do so. Furthermore, Pit bulls are no more vicious than Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and other well known dogs. There was a recent study by the American Temperament Testing Society that tested 122 dog breeds and Pit Bulls had a passing score of 86.8%. Pit Bulls ranked fourth for the highest passing breed in this study. You are very unlikely to be fatally attacked by a Pit Bull. In fact, you are 60 times more likely to die from falling…

In about a quarter of fatal dog-bite cases, the dog owners were previously involved in illegal fighting. The dogs that bite people are, in many cases, socially isolated because their owners are socially isolated, and they are vicious because they have owners who want a vicious dog. The junk-yard German shepherd -- which looks as if it would rip your throat out -- and the German shepherd guide dog are the same breed. But they are not the same dog, because they have owners with different intentions. (qtd. in Argument in support of breed bans).…

The reputation of the Pit Bull has taken a dramatic downfall in the past few decades due to negative publicity. Originally, Pit Bulls were considered to be “American darlings”; during WWI they were claimed to be the sweetest and most loving dogs a person could own, but in the 1980’s the view of the “American darlings” changed due to an illegal “sport”, dogfighting. Although dogfighting is illegal in all fifty states, inhumane persons who participate in the sport choose pit bulls because of their strong physique and loyal personality, which contribute…

In some cases narcotic drugs are even fed to them to make them more aggressive. Dogs have their tails cut short and ears cropped to have less chance of another dog grabbing at it during a fight. The worse part is the dogs have their tail and ears cut by their cruel unprofessional owner. During a fight, dogs are contained in a 14 by 20 square-foot pit.
