Does Travel Really Broaden the Mind?
Question: Travel is often said to influence travelers by making them more open to other cultures and new ideas. Does travel really broaden the mind? What are some other effects of extended period of travel?
Nowadays, travelling has become a lifestyle for people, and it is expanding fast. In a hectic schedule, people are trying to have vacation by travelling. Reasons why people choose travel are because people want to discover new things, have recreation far from the hectic schedule. A lot of motives also affect people to travel. Usually they want to explore, discover, and relaxing. Some say to broaden the mind, but some say it is only a waste of time and money.
The advantages of travelling give us cause and effect. People said that travelling influence travelers to have different perspective, different point of view. When we are going on a trip, the culture of the destination creates a new perspective and a new way of living our life. People also tend to copy their surroundings, which is why I can say that travelling also make us have a new good attitude. The effect of these 2 advantages that I stated is our behavior, which can affect other people as well.
Next, we discuss about the disadvantages of travel and the negative effects of travelling. Dangerous thing can happen during travel. The safety of the transportation is one of the dangerous things that could happen. Diseases issues are also one of the reasons why travelling can be such if a danger (Travel exposes, 2009, p. Online). For example, when swine flu disease attacked that time, people were scared to travel and they always used mask. The other reason is some people had a perspective that people won’t always need physical travel only to broaden the mind, because the idea expanding the mind can be obtained through having a smart conversation, read books, et cetera (The previous, 2009, p. Online). The last reason is because of other country’s problem. The conflict of a travelling destination is not what

St Augustine once said, "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." This quote suggests that each and every one of us should travel and see the outside world rather than just ours. Many people don't really see the point of travelling, and the most common excuse is it's a waste of time; money or it's scary to travel to places that are too far away. People don't recognize the importance and outlook in travelling. It's very essential to educate ourselves and know the countries around us and the different cultures and traditions. One thing is for certain, we only serve to gain from our travels. Two paths await you when you travel. You can leave behind all the comforts of home and set off for a sheltered location that provides all the same comforts available to you at home. Or you can take the second route. Shed your lifestyle, customs, and certainties and escape into a new world that you can fully embrace. Trust me, the second path is always more fulfilling, plus the stories you come home with will be even better than any spa retreat could ever serve up. Travel should be something you learn from as much as to enjoy. Anyone can travel, but smart travelers will approach everything with an open mind and heart that allows them to see the real beauty in the places they set out to explore. Here are some of my favorite travel quotes to get you thinking differently about the way you travel. On Why You Should Travel Experience travel, these are as education in themselves. Euripides He who does not travel does not know the value of men. Moorish Proverb Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe. Anatole France The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. St. Augustine Motivation To Go Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds. Explore. Dream. Discover. Firstly, people travel out of curiosity. The mass explosion of media exposes people to endless flow of information, thus expanding their horizon to an unprecedented extent, which arouses people’s curiosity about the unknown. The more curious one gets, the more one wants to explore the unexplored. Splendid natural wonders like Grand Canyon in the States and Great Barrier Reef in Australia, magnificent architectures like the Imperial Palace in China and Versailles in France, alluring distinctive ethnic cultures, thrilling adventures like gliding and diving… attract people like magnets. Only through travelling can theses so-called splendor, magnificence, allurement and thrills be real. Besides, curiosity also leads people to mediation and reflection: what is the difference between our own culture and its counterparts? Is the account in documentaries or tour guide mirroring the reality of that society? Some travelers got disillusioned when seeing the ugly cracks on the wall of the beautiful Sydney Opera House, while others felt surprised when tasting a palatable dish in Britain which is known for its terrible cuisine… no matter how reality treats you, this precious experience cannot be attained by mere reading and daydreaming, and only through travelling can people’s curiosity be fully satisfied.…

Why do we travel ? As Pico Iyer mentioned in his article “ Why We Travel “ Travelling gives us the advantage of losing all of the stress around; moreover, it lets us enjoy a deep break. In addition, travelling uncovers the other cultures with a way that hearing or reading about cannot cover. Further more, travelling is more about feeling younger and reliving your life, it is about taking life slower so you could enjoy every moment in it. Iyer explained in his article how living the experience is totally different from hearing or reading about it. Iyer used different ways in his article to convince the people how travelling could change their ways of looking at the world. Iyer’s article is about how travelling could help us gain more knowledge and get more educated. Iyer was effective in bringing the thought of how valuable voyaging is. He utilized the rhetorical appeals to deliver his opinion to his audience. However, he made some fallacies while delivering his opinion.…
