I believe it supports our definition of geography, for both the film’s and definition’s main points/ideas are in relevance to a cause(human activity) and effect(on natural environment) type system. Global warming, an obvious interaction/problem between human activity and the natural environment is also covered in this film. It states that there is a hole in the ozone above Antarctica, larger than Europe caused by chemicals used daily. Such chemicals are being released more and more each day; faster than our trees and oceans can absorb. Having less and less trees each day could also be an important factor to take into account. The first aspect that comes to mind is when we go to the store and we purchase imported goods, we use the goods that are made in other places around the world and so we are connected through that sense, but also through the flow of money. As economies like China are benefiting from our purchase and we are benefiting from the products, the flow of money creates mutual benefits and this is a link, our choice to buy imported goods not only affects us, but the countries 3. Space in terms of a geographic location has been used as a way to control and maintain power and to segregate society in terms of race or class. We see the constant deterioration of our natural environment as the government continues to industrialize and as technological advancements increase so does our power as a nation, which is what our geographic location provides, the limited and scarce resources are used to profit on. We then create monuments in order to display this power, the massive buildings that replace the beauty of nature. Space has also been used to segregate the people living in a geographic location, whether it is on the basis of race or wealth, this is another way we use our land to control and maintain power, over prejudice beliefs and racial supremacy. History has shown us that people can fight for change, if we want to save the what is left of nature and preserve it we can do this, however, reclaiming what has already been destroyed including the resources we have ruined, is practically impossible. We can plant new trees and maintain resources, promote the expansion of nature as opposed to deterioration, but it is not nearly enough to recover what we have lost, there are certain resources we can no longer bring back and that includes animal species. I think in regards to segregation, control we can fight against this usage of space and reclaim the space as it is our natural right to be able to inhabit it, it is the right of all living beings, we cannot restrict birds from…

“Geography is a subject which holds the key to the future”. This quote by TV geographer and comedian Michael Palin perfectly encompasses why I love geography. The fact that it is the geographers of the world who have the responsibility to predict and solve future global issues such as overpopulation, climate change and dwindling natural resources, both excites and inspires me. My geography teacher believed that geography is a global subject, made up of the four spheres of the Earth: the biosphere, the lithosphere, the atmosphere and the hydrosphere. So, in my opinion, a student of geography is one with the broadest and most globally relevant extent of knowledge of all faculties. This is why I want to be part of the exclusive club of geographers, and hopefully be a part of the future of our planet.…

Repeatedly in the film, when global warming is discussed they use weak analogies with it to make global warming a positive thing; snazzy jazz music will play softly in the background and then attractive people in bikinis at the beach, giving the viewer the impression that a warmer temp is equivocal to beach paradise. It’s a weak analogy and a generalization because a couple degrees warmer in Europe or a temperate zone may not be that tragic, but what about the consequences of a few degrees temperate increase closer to the equator where the average temperate is consistently high? A few degrees warmer in Europe, or Minnesota might not be too tragic, but residents near the equator would undoubtedly disagree. A temperature increase on the Sahara desert, or anywhere along the equator would have definite tragic results.…

More than ever, integrative sciences, like Geography, are essential components for understanding the world and all that is in it. Human Geography is an important topic that many people should be informed about, because if you aren’t then you would be very unaware of the things that are going on in this world. Another reason it is good to learn about human geography is because the world is constantly changing nowadays. Day after day environment is influenced by people more and more. My final reason is because human beings have such a major impact on the planet's landscapes and resources, and groups of people are in constant interaction with each other, so Human Geography is vital in helping us to understand our world.…
