Freedom is not something that anybody can be given; Freedom is something that people take and people are as free as they want to be. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, states, "Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." Basically, Franklin is saying that in any circumstances mankind should not forget about the most important thing in the world - freedom. Freedom is when people have the opportunity to pursue happiness without any barriers. Freedom "gives" happiness because the state of being free is aligned with our true nature. The more you are aligned with your true nature, the more you are well. To simplify this, I would say if we have freedom - we have happiness; if we lose freedom we lose happiness as well. I believe people are only able to value it, as far as they can acknowledge how much it's important to them. I really love and appreciate the opportunity to be happy, that’s why I totally agree with Benjamin…

Locke writes, “All power that is given with trust for attaining a certain end is limited by that purpose; when the purpose is obviously neglected or opposed by the legislature·, the trust is automatically forfeited and the power returns into the hands of those who gave it”. When governmental power is used incorrectly, the social contract is broken and people no longer have an obligation to obey unjust laws. Defending freedom may require exercising a right to…

Today, we enjoy a greater modicum of freedom that some of our ancestors could've only dreamed of. However, as we all know, freedom is, quite ironically, not free. Our ancestors all had to escape oppression, whether it be from a tyrannous ruler or a society that demeaned them to nothing because of the color of their skin or their gender. America, the land of opportunity, was a land built by the labours of our forefathers. These men and women fought so valiantly not only to ensure their freedom, but also the freedom of the future generations ahead of them. Even today, although we may not realize it, when we fight for a cause that we are dedicated to, we are not only cementing our futures, but the futures of those ahead of us. It is a quote from…

H.L. Mencken once said “The average man doesn’t want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” The U.S had come in contact with many situations that have tested their power that has affected us also. I believe with Mencken, that safety is much more necessary than having freedom with the kind of society we are in now. The U.S. has fought to provide better standers for everyone that benefits them also. Without safety, how would we go by everyday thinking that something bad would happen to them? That what if someone would do them harm or they get fired from work? Then what…. What would freedom do them there? It wouldn’t do anything, you would be dead, or living in the streets because no one is guaranteed their safety at work. But there are times, when safety becomes an issue in some cases.…
