Monday afternoon, two girls, Riley and Diane, were at Get Air playing Dodgeball. They weren’t being conscientious of their throws, they were just playing around and not actually following the rules. They would go on each others side and would miss each other from just a few feet away. If they got hit or caught the ball, which was rare, they would just continue playing and not really care. You could tell the two girls weren’t honestly trying incredibly hard, but you could still assume that neither of them were that great at it. Sometimes they would kick the ball at each other instead of throwing it. During this game they were somewhat lackadaisical. They were the only two playing and they were having fun, so it was ok that they weren’t following the rules.…

One blistering summers’ day in Northwest Florida, home for college, Jay was cleaning out the garage. This was apart of his mother’s summer clean sweep project, which she did every year. Jay comes from a family who is very involved in sports. So as he was singing the childhood clean up and going through and sorting the football pads, softballs, baseball, batting and fielding gloves, sweet bands, and other athletic equipment and sports wear he came across a recognizable object. It was his old bat. The Bat he used in little league almost 10 years ago. This was the first bat that Jay ever had. As Jay held the dusty, paint chipped, dry-rotting but yet still majestic bat in his hands, fond memories of the typical day at the ballpark began to flood his mind.…

Brooklyn, one of the 5 boroughs in New York and being known as a magnet for immigrants, had its greatest amount of people moving into the borough during the 40s and 50s. It was the post-war era and families were sprouting all over New York. During that time the Brooklyn Dodgers were a significant part of Brooklyn and baseball history. It all started at Ebbets Field where the Dodgers became infamous in 1947 with the color barrio being broken by Jackie Robinson. They suffered season after season heart breaks to the dreaded…

Baseball is a game of skill that requires two teams consisting of nine players; a field, and equipment, such as gloves, bats and baseballs. To start, you will need nine willing players per team to participate. One team plays defence in the field , while the other plays offense at bat. The pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher with a offensive hitter in the batter's box trying to hit the pitched ball. Next, the umpire is the official that calls balls and strikes. A strike is a pitch thrown by the pitcher that crosses the plane of home plate between the hitters knees and letters, which is chest height. If it is within this zone, it’s a strike. If the pitch is not in this zone, it is a ball. If the hitter does not hit the pitch into the playing field before receiving three strikes, he is out.…

Football is one of America’s most beloved sports and with the super bowl coming up; fans of the sport are getting ready for the big game. I am an avid football fan myself and love playing it as much I enjoy watching it. What I have come to notice recently, is how the lives of football players are drastically changed when they are off the field. Football is a full contact sport, if you’re not prepared or unprotected at any given time during a play, you could end up limping off the field nursing injuries or even leave the game on a stretcher.…

Football is not too dangerous to be played in high school. Football is a popular sport with half a million injuries nationally. 4 out of every 1000 high school football exposures resulted in an injury and 8 of out of every 1000 collegiate football exposures resulted in injuries so that means that even if it’s played in high school or college levels there is still a risk of injuries. High school football players have a greater proportion of getting season ending injuries as in fractures and concussions. High levels of ankle and knee injuries are most common when playing football. But to avoid these injuries it’s recommended that players condition their ankles and knees more, and a change at protecting the more vulnerable body parts. To make…

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

Scholar athletes deserve to be given special treatment because we have to go above and beyond more than the average student. There are times that as a student athlete that you will have to miss class due to road trips. When I was a freshman, I was assigned two papers in one day and they were both due the very next day, because I had to leave for a basketball road trip and we would have been gone the entire week and I would be missing the due date that was assigned for each one of the assignments. My teachers did not accept emailed assignments and only accepted hard copies. Now on that particular day I did not get out of class until twelve, had practice from…
