A Report on Green Economy

Abstract

The research was conducted on Green Economy. The purpose was to find the importance of green economy in Bangladesh and the various methods and measures that could be undertaken by the country to enhance sustainability. It was also necessary to discover the possible sectors in which investment could be done in order to boost the concept of green economy. It was discovered that Bangladesh has favorable conditions for the implementation of green economy. Thus it would be recommended that if it is financially feasible, Bangladesh should take a step forward towards green economy.

Introduction

Definition
The concept of Green Economy is to obtain sustainable economy by creating less pollution, waste and non-biodegradable products. Green Economy also refers to the concept of improved living standards and social equity. It is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions by undertaking various eco-friendly measures to make sure the survival of our beautiful planet “EARTH”.

Objectives
The objective was to focus mainly on:
Environmental regulations
Implementation of water conservation practices (where applicable) Implementation of energy conservation practices (where applicable) Implementation of waste reduction practices (where applicable) Implementation of pollution prevention measures to improve overall efficiency and reduce overall waste generation. Development and implementation of a continuous improvement plan.

Literature review
The Green economy is one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. Green economy is an economy or economic development model based on sustainable development and knowledge of ecological economics. A Green economy focuses economic growth and employment reducing carbon emissions and pollution, accelerating sustainable development with minimum utilization of natural resources and conserving ecosystem services.

According to KARL BURKART, Green economy is based on six sectors: Renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, marine including wave, biogas, and fuel cell) Green buildings (green retrofits for energy and water efficiency, residential and commercial assessment; green products and materials, and LEED construction) Clean transportation (alternative fuels, public transit, hybrid and electric vehicles, car sharing and carpooling programs) Water management (Water reclamation, grey water and rainwater systems, low-water landscaping, water purification, storm water management) Waste management (recycling, municipal solid waste salvage, brownfield land remediation, Superfund cleanup, sustainable packaging) Land management (organic agriculture, habitat conservation and restoration; urban forestry and parks, reforestation and afforestation)

Research Methodology

Issues with Green economy
Green economy includes green energy generation based on renewable energy to substitute for fossil fuels and energy conservation for efficient energy use.
