Dm-5 Self Reflection
The meeting with my site supervisor went well. We discussed my goals for the semester which are expanding my knowledge in being able to apply different therapeutic approaches and theories during sessions. Another goal would be to expand knowledge of the DSM-5 familiarizing myself with the diagnosis I will be encountering during this practicum. Through shadowing I would like to learn how to conduct a thorough assessment.
My supervisor agreed with me wanting to expand my knowledge in familiarizing myself with the DSM-5. She explained the agency receive a lot of referrals from many sources and all the diagnosis vary so familiarizing myself with the DSM-5 is a good goal.     In my opinion, the most pressing ethical concern in using the DSM-5 as a diagnostic tool is relying too heavily on the results given and not really listening to the patient. This could lead the therapist to a diagnosis that is not based on what the patient is actually suffering from by not looking at the whole picture.
