M/W/F Big things come in small packages; this is a very common used maxim. People use it to scribe what good things can come from, for instance I was one the smallest kids on my baseball team, but of the best players we had, this is a example of someone saying big things come in small packages. Another example can be like one of the best workers that you work with, everyone doubts, but when it comes down to it, he/she is the best you got. The last example I have is on your birthday, you may not have the biggest box in the room with your name, but the smallest present you get, can be the thing you wanted the most in your life. Being the smallest on the team, yet one of the better players, my coaches expected a lot out of me, always expecting me to make my team mentally prepared and make them pumped up for the game we love to play.

Later in my high school career, now bigger and stronger, I tried out for an elite summer softball team. My new coach was unlike any coach I had had before. He would scream in my face, and point out my flaws in front of the entire team. However, most importantly, he challenged me to grow as a person and to confront my biggest fear, which is failure. He pushed me to my limits, making me want to quit and wishing I had never played the game. Despite these challenges, I persevered and became mentally and physically…

I had to deal with disappointment from teammates, coaches, parents, and, above all, myself. On the first day of tryouts my freshman year of highschool, I was kindly hypothesized to possess “potential”. I was horrified. Potential was the label given to those who stood on the brink of mediocrity; those who walked the terribly broad line of “nothing special.” I was painfully average. After being praised for my talents throughout the course of my entire soccer career, you can imagine my surprise and disappointment upon hearing the mortifying pronouncement of my amateurity. I didn’t know it at the time, but my coach did me a huge favor with his frankness. I realized that not everything in life would be handed to me on a silver platter. In fact, most of it would not. I had to prove myself worthy, not only to my coach, but to myself as well. Through my extra workout and practice sessions, I developed determination and a tireless work ethic that I apply to every facet of my life. I’ve learned how to take criticism and losses and transfigure them into improvements and…

Upon my arrival to my first varsity practice, I immediately noticed an increased amount of intensity and focus. I knew I would have to work even harder to keep up with the bigger and stronger players. After a week of varsity practice, however, I felt accepted on the team. The team had a solid week of practice, and we were prepared to take…

The short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst and “The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe are two works of literature that support this quote. In both of these works, it is evident that the two main characters from both stories both have very tragic flaws. These make the story more interesting to read because after reading it reveals the true nature of mankind.…

This phrase can be translated meaningfully in my life in a number of ways. One experience, in particular, comes to mind; The way I fell in love. Falling in love at first sight tends to be regarded as a cliche way of thinking, but I truly believe that had I not been paying attention to my surroundings the day that I first met my current boyfriend, we may not be together today. I still reflect on the moment our eyes first met and am in awe of how far we have come in our relationship since that day.…

People often ask me, “do you play basketball or volleyball? Because you’re really tall.” As a six-foot-tall girl, I find that people are disappointed when I tell them “no, not anymore.” I was always told by coaches and parents that “you have potential,” but basketball, much to my dad’s dismay, was not for me. I found that I had the potential to do something with my life, to be someone bigger than myself. My freshman and sophomore years, I did not want to be involved in my school. Rather I wanted to get in and get out and go to college. But all that changed when I decided I wanted to be a Link Crew Leader, at the time I did not know what it meant to be a link leader, I just knew I wanted to be one.…

“A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss. That’s the trade-off. But I’ll take it all.’’ This quote means that the greater you love a person the harder the loss of that person is to you. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke relates to this quote in her book Inkheart in chapters 29 and 30. I agree with this quote because the quote could relate to you or someone else.…
