It would be very discouraging for children to be subjected to discriminatory beliefs that are held by either myself or other teachers for example my cousin wanted to be a ballet dancer when he was a child but after teasing from other members of the family suggesting that dancing is only for girls and gay men he did not continue to attend classes. This was something that he regrets as it was a dream of his and now he has grown up he wishes he had been encouraged to dance. By taking any of families or, friends or even my own beliefs in to school is unfair on the children I am there to support. They could be made to feel that if because of their background or who they are means they cannot aspire to be what they want to be so will not reach to achieve their full potential.As with another example my father-in-law is sexist and believes that a woman’s place is in the home cooking, cleaning and looking after the children and if I was to take that to school with me I could treat the girls differently dismissing their work and only encouraging the boys, giving the girls the false idea of they are not good enough. I will work alongside Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander people by showing them respect, consideration and understanding. I acknowledge their struggle and I will do all I can to understand their culture and lifestyle by learning as much as I can about them as our nations first people. In doing this I will value their input and encourage their participation. By having a genuine interest in Aboriginal/TSI culture and including this within the service will develop greater relationships and a better understanding between people on all levels. Discrimination can be defined as treating someone unjustly or unfavourably particularly because of age, gender, race, or sexuality. We can see various examples of racial discrimination in the movie Remember the Titans from both races. We can see this particularly towards the start of the movie when Julius (dark) and Garry (white) are put into a room together, Julius puts up a poster but Garry makes him take it down which then leads to a fight. The fact that Garry starts a fight with Julius shows the audience that he feels that he is better than Julius because of the skin difference, and that is an act of discrimination.…
