ESTRATEGIA DE DIVERSIFICACIÓN – CASE IMAGINARIUM Mai Pham

PREGUNTAS 3: ¿Cuáles son las claves del éxito de la empresa? Busque la información necesaria para argumentar su respuesta. First of all, Imaginarium’s key success factor is that they know how to distinguish themselves from competitors in the toys industry. The success will be explained by using elements of the so-called “value chain”. According to Félix Tena1 (general director of Imaginarium) himself, the key factors to his company’s success are its logistics and the detailed study of any implementation (before it is definitely implemented). Looking at the production, Imaginarium chooses to focus on toys that positively influence the formation and development of children through play and fun. Other than its competitors, this company has specifically chosen not to sell toys related to violence or sexism, because this does not positively influence the upbringing of children. Regarding marketing and sales, Imaginarium tries to get the attention of both children and their parents. Unlike competitors, they do not use advertising through television commercials. Instead, the toy retailer uses their stores – the attractiveness of and the experience in the stores – as a way to sell their products. Concerning Imaginarium’s HRM policies, they specifically choose employees who have an interest in the well being of children and who can identify with the company’s vision. Most employees are recent graduates in the field of e.g. pedagogy, psychologists, or educators. This way they know how to deal with children coming into the store, and moreover they can obtain parents’ confidence (who eventually should buy the toys). Concluding, there are many factors that can explain Imaginarium’s success, but most importantly is that they company has distinguished itself from its competitors by really identifying with their customers’ needs.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines diversity as “the state of being diverse” (OED par 1). The word diversity originates from the Middle English diversite, an English root meaning, “to turn aside” (OED par 4). Diversity personifies a cross-culture exposure to develop openness approaching distinctive personalities and perspectives to improve human connection with a variety of people. Yet, human diversity may connote issues of ethnicity and may struggle with the continuation of addressing the common goal of embedding diversity into routine operations. In today’s century, human interaction amplifies by the increasing use of social media, but inclines to lack the focal point of exporting strategies that relate to essential topics.…

This case study is about the Cherry Tree Learning Materials Company, this company was a successful manufacturer of sixty different special education toys and games. Special education deals with the education of children with various physical, mental or emotional disabilities. There sales has been growing by 7 – 8 percent annually due to sales of the toys and games they produce. The organization manufactured a line of new toys designed to assist in the development of children’s with five types of problems, specifically dealing with motor skills, visual motor skills, auditory skills, phonology skills, structural and verbal syntax skills. One of the products that sold well and received much favorable comments from teachers and parents was the balance disc. This toy protected children; they could sit, stand or kneel on the surface. An edging protected their hands and fingers. This toy assisted in several ways, it taught equilibrium, it helped with body alignment, and coordinated mental and muscular activity, also developing the child’s body image concept. With many of these types of products selling for a decent price, could the company sell in any other markets? That was the questions for the executives at the company; they were interested in whether they could successfully offer their line of toys and games to children who had no difficulties. Essentially could they expand outside the special education market? Lawrence Teilman who was an executive their stated that he opposed such a change of a basic strategy because he taught Cherry Tree had done little to serve the special education market through parents of children who needed the products. The rational he came up with was schools might buy one or two units per classroom, promoting this item to parents for home use might result in the sale of eight or ten additional units per classroom of special education children. No one in the company perceived this idea of being a problem,…

    Bio-Diversity

The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity is commonly referred to as biodiversity. The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth. Appropriate conservation and sustainable development strategies attempt to recognize this as being integral to any approach. Almost all cultures have in some way or form recognized the importance that nature, and its biological diversity has had upon them and the need to maintain it. Yet, power, greed and politics have affected the precarious balance. Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given species, ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. Biodiversity is in part a function of climate. In terrestrial habitats, tropical regions are typically rich whereas, Polar Regions support fewer species. Rapid environmental changes typically cause mass extinctions. One estimate is that less than 1% of the species that have existed on Earth are extant.…

After I took some time to reflect back on my past experiences I realized that diversity has affected me a lot more in my life than I thought. When thinking about question number one (Growing up do you remember discovering that your family did anything differently from other families because of your culture, religion, or ethnicity?), I realized that this actually had affected me and I did not really even realize it. I grew up in a family very rooted in Jesus Christ and the belief that he is the only thing that truly sustains us. Growing up I was always in church, we prayed as a family before every meal, and simply made loving other people a priority in our lives. For me these things seemed completely normal for a while, they just seemed like something that I was innately supposed to do.…

What makes America such a great place to live is the experiences and the positive gains from ethnic diversity. In America, you can take an adventure and learn to speak Spanish, eat Indian food, dress like the Japanese, listen to Australian music with a group of Brazilian friends and still be American. Building optimistic synergy through cultural assortment is what makes the United States of America an original place. However, it is not the greetings we learn or the languages we can speak, it is the ability to converse with each other, whether we are Asian or American, white or black. Now, we live the dream of Martin Luther King, which is really no dream at all, for it is reality.…

In the course, ORG6499: Cultural Diversity & Individual Differences we have done multiple discussion journal reflections which relate to diversity. The paper will relate those discussions to my philosophy of diversity. A few of those discussions focused on the United States diversity and it appears that America’s diversity would be pluralistic and Mosaic in nature, which will be discussed a little further in detail. In the course we have also experienced a cultural plunge assignment, which will also be used in the paper to relate and build upon my philosophy of diversity. The Civil Rights Movement along with the Gay Rights Movement and homosexuality will be discussed as part of my diversity philosophy as well.
