Disney Movies Vs. Snow White

Disney movies have changed over the years as our society has grown and changed. This is evident when comparing one of the first Disney movies, Snow White to one of the most recent, Frozen. Snow White tells the tale of a young princess who is tricked into eating a poisoned apple and it saved by her Prince Charming. On the other hand Frozen is the story of a princess named Anna who goes on a journey to save her sister, Elsa, who is cured with ice powers. These movies are vastly different, showing that 75 years makes a difference. One of the most striking differences between the two movies is the character dynamics. The whole cast of Snow White is shown as having only one side to them. The Evil Queen is just that, evil. We never get to see a side of her that is positive. Frozen shows that women can be powerful, as seen with Else and her powers. This movie also shows the girl can be the hero of the story, when Anna sacrifices herself to save her sister. Hans and Kristoff show two different sides of men, the first being secretly and manipulating and the other being goofy, and compassionate yet still a hero. Snow White is your stereotypical female. She takes care of the house, is sweet and innocent, and leaves it up to her prince to save her. The prince on the other hand has to save her. Another difference between the two flicks are the antagonists. No one could tell just by looking at Hans that he would end up being the antagonist of Frozen; In fact, for half the movie the audience believes that he is a good person. Snow White’s antagonist could be identified based solely on her wicked looks. Frozen does a better job at showing a “ bad” person because in the real world what most people would consider to be evil people look like everyone else.
