The Running Horned Woman was created in Tassili n’Ajjer, Algeria, circa 6,000-4,000 B.C.E. This is a piece of parietal art, made with various pigments on rock. There is not much known about this area of Algeria, also known as the “Land of Many Rivers,” but historians use the people who inhabit the location today to gain insight on their predecessors. The Tuareg people are nomads, so one can assume that the people who lived before them herded animals as well, residing in groups. This area of the Sahara has massive caves, including the one where this piece was found in.
