Discussion Board COMS101
Discussion Board 1:
1. In one complete sentence, state this production 's main point or thesis
The Hope video proved to viewers that God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things who sent His only son to save us from our sins and to show the world His love for us.
2. State whether this production is designed to be informative or persuasive?
This Production was designed to be informative showing viewers that God does exist and did send his only son here to die on the cross to prove that unconditional love to us, his children. The video did this through facts, history and the Bible.
3. Citing relevant principles from the textbook, justify your answer to the second question.
In Albans text, Speech Communication, he describes an informative speech “with an intent to enlighten [an] audience- to increase understanding or awareness and, perhaps, to create a new perspective”(791). I believe this is exactly what the producers did in the video The Hope. Throughout the video the speakers informed you with facts and support about the way the world was created and how Jesus was sent to die on the cross for our sins through bible stories and narration. The video set up a short summary through facts from history and the Bible proving God’s existence and purpose for his creation. Alban noted that an informative speech even “perhaps create[s] a new perspective” for the viewer; Showing that an informative speeches goal is not to persuade someone but to show the facts, however, sometimes the information presented might change the way the person saw that topic (171). The Hope set out to inform viewers of the producers beliefs through fact which may or may not have persuaded peoples thoughts or beliefs, however they accomplished their purpose for the video which was to tell the true story of the worlds purpose and creation.

I found your Discussion Board Forum 4 post quite interesting. I didn’t agree with the post in its entirety. Opening a new business is hard work. Anyone looking into opening a business should thoroughly do their research. Betty has done some great ground work by researching a few franchises. The franchise concept is a great option for someone new to the business world. The franchisor usually continues to support the operation of the franchisee 's business by providing advertising, accounting, training, related services, and in many instances, products needed by the franchisee. (Satterlee, 2009). Betty would not be in business by herself. She would have professional advice throughout this journey. If Betty chose a sole proprietorship she would solely be responsible. Franchising means using a tried and tested formula to benefit from the experience and support of the franchisor (Schizas, 2013).I don’t agree that she shouldn’t employ Emma solely because of beliefs. Emma would be an employee not a partner. Emma is fully aware that Betty wants to run a Christian coffee shop. I would not choose Alice to partner, because of her husband’s firm beliefs that his wife should be at home. I would not want to start any family problems. However, I do believe that Betty’s husband could be her business partner. The financial contributions will assist greatly with Betty’s goals. I agree that Betty needs to consider other names for her business, because “The Gathering Place” was taken”. I think it is a great idea for her to name her business something that lets customers now that it is a coffee shop. Betty should look at the pros and cons of all the business types and go from there. Regardless of what decision Betty makes she needs to look to God for guidance to make the right decisions.…

The nobleman besought Jesus that he would heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus said unto him "Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way." His servants met him and confirmed that his son was alive. This sign miracle reveals the deity of Christ because it shows that the power of Christ is not limited by space. This miracle also reveals Christ deity because it manifested the power of his spoken word.…

It is truly amazing to find out how much God’s love is to mankind is. HE is a supreme being, because how can we explain the knowledge he possess. HE is a God of new beginnings and HE has existed before the world was even created. The bible says “In the beginning, God…” there was no account of how HE came into existence and the whole idea of what we are seeing today has been predetermined by HIM and it is still very much relevant to our lives today.…

As of the most recent studies, women account for 1 out of 4 new HIV/AIDS cases in the United States, and 2 out of 3 of these new cases are African American women. The majority of these women acquired HIV from having unprotected sex with men. Although the overall amount of people acquiring HIV/AIDS have dropped, the percentage for African American women is on the rise. One can only wonder why this is the case. Clearly, there are not enough HIV prevention intervention programs geared to fit the needs of African American women.…

I know how to speak, and I can hear when people talk to me, but why is it that we still consume ineffective listening skills between one another? When we think of effective listening at work or on the job, most of us think of what we actually say or what is said to us. What I am going to cover is the factors and barriers of effective communication, strategies for active, critical and empathic listening and understanding the impact of gender and culture on interpersonal communication.…

We learn in the bible that he would perform miraculous wonder in front off all the nations. We then see how he rose from the dead and walked all around the world preaching and teaching for 30 days. Also when he ascends into heaven the whole world was able to see his glory shine. This is a show on how what was prophesied came to live. How what was in the word became flesh and dwelled among us (John 1:1). To this day reading God’s word surprises me and shows how real and alive God is.…

For me, hanging out with friends is a very good way to pass time. This includes every thing. By “hanging out” I mean every thing, from playing Cricket, going out for parties, standing idle in the parking, to sitting in a “chai wala” hotel(late at night). I can never sit idle in my house, it’s a very uncomfortable feeling and I can not stand it so I text my friend and go outside.…
