Mapping Your Future
My degree program at Kaplan University is Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting. I am taking online classes here at Kaplan.
National median salary for a Medical Assistant is around 30,550 dollars, (www.bls.gov). Depending on what state you’re in the salary will vary. For my state which is Indiana it’s around 28,800 dollars, (www.bls.gov). I am sure that being employed somewhere for a very long time you salary might rise a little.

I am not sure at this moment if I will be living in Indiana after I graduate, I have Tennessee on my mind. So I looked up both states. Indiana has a job demand for Medical Assistants as of 2012 was 11,910. As for Tennessee as of 2012 it was 13,090. I have some serious thinking to do.

Medical Assisting does not require any other certification other than the one I am doing now. Most Medical Assistants only need a high school diploma and on the job training. But a Certified medical Assistant is not offered to take for students who do the online program at Kaplan except for ( Caahep) Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program only offered at the campus in certain states and that is upon recommendation of the (MAERB) Medical Assisting Education Review Board. (www.Kaplanuniverstisy.edu/health-science/medical-assisting-associate-degree.aspx)

I think the job outlook for Medical Assisting is on the rise the BLS.gov website states that from 2010 to 2022 that Medical Assisting will jump 29% faster than average. Healthcare professionals will always be in need and that is one thing that is a great plus when it comes time to graduate and there are many opportunities for Medical Assistants.

Five very important duties of a Medical Assistant are keeping records of patients which includes health information like blood results or test results and office visits. Assisting doctors with treatment of the patient, such as giving injections or removing stitches. Medical Assistants preform many

All these responsibilities and services provided by the physician assistant are appointed and under the orders of a physician. When a patient is first walked into the physician’s office, the person that sees the patient before the main physician is the physician assistant. During this time, the P.A. examines the patient, reviews medical history, orders and interprets laboratory tests, and makes diagnoses of their own. The physician assistant later relays the information collected to the physician. Following this, the physician goes in and makes his or her own observations of the patient and recommends a remedy. As one can see through this process, the physician’s job has been made faster and easier. “In some cases, PAs also make house calls or go to hospitals and nursing care facilities to check on patients, after which they report back to the physician” (U.S. Department of Labor, 2011). Most physician assistants work in primary care offices and family doctor’s offices. However, some PAs do work in surgeries, orthopedics and…

As a Medical Assistant I will be carrying out many job functions on a daily basis, however specific job duties will depend on the facility I choose to work in. Some of the common job duties of Medical Assistants are: recording patient’s medical history, clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies, answer phones or schedule appointments, interview patients to obtain medical information to help the doctor’s or nurse’s to be able to treat and diagnose the patient’s symptoms, and prepare treatment rooms for new patients. All of these job duties allow the patients to feel at ease that they will be treated and know they will not be getting any new illness due to un-cleanliness. It also allows the doctor’s and nurse’s time to see and treat other patients without having to complete all of the above on their own and worry about inaccurate information being collected. Without Medical Assistants the staff would experience an over load of work and tasks that just would not be able to be completed in one day. Staff would be unable to build a good rapport with the patients and the day would be very chaotic and unorganized. It is also important to…
