Discrimination Against People With Disability Study
This act was passed in 1990, prohibiting the discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, public services, public accommodations, and telecommunications. EEOC was given enforcement authority for title 1 of the act, the employment discrimination provisions. Title 1 of the act took 2 years before coming into effect to allow the Commission time to develop regulations and technical assistance, time to conduct comprehensive public education programs on the new disability law, also to allow time for employers to adjust to the new requirements.

The disabilities discrimination act was made for individuals who suffer from a disability this right was made so even they can have the same rights as everyone else. They don’t want any individual with a disability to feel as if though they are not missing out on anything just because they are not able to do such things. The act speaks up for people who are not confident enough to get across all their rights they are entitled to. The Act also still applies. Previously, it made it unlawful to discriminate against people in respect of their disabilities in relation to employment, the provision of goods and services, education and transport. The individuals this act helps are disabled individuals who suffer from illnesses like; down syndrome, dyslexia and mental health problems. It also refers back to individuals who may be involved in an accident and now suffering from a broken leg, arm etc, who are then on wheelchairs this makes them unable to do things others can do. The act also helps individuals from not getting treated any different just because they may not be able to do things others can without disability this act is here to stop discrimination like this. Sometimes there may be no reasonable adjustment, and the outcome is that a disabled person is treated less favorably. For example, if a person was not able to understand the implications of entering into a mortgage or loan agreement, and they did not have anyone authorized to act for them, it would not make sense to require a bank or building society to enter into that agreement.     If everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom that is set forth in the Declaration, disabled people should not be robbed of their rights. However, they are still devalued from conducting common tasks which puts them at the bottom of the priority list as an employee and even so as a friend. In search to solve this problem, according to “The Disabled” by Bender, D. on July 26, 1990, President George Bush signed the ADA into law that serves and protects people with disabilities. This law prohibits discrimination against the disabled by employers and required commercial establishments, public accommodation, and mass transportation be made accessible to disabled persons (Bender 17). When the law was signed, new doors opened for the deaf and hard of hearing culture for a better opportunity in gaining equal rights. President Bush appointed four titles to protect deaf and hard of hearing people. In “The ADA and Deaf Culture” by Tucker, B. Title I, prohibits both public and private employers from refusing to hire or promote an individual because of his or her impairment and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for applicants or employees who are deaf or hard of hearing (Tucker 28). If a deaf or hard of hearing employee can pass the essential part of the job qualification, he or she is protected by the ADA to be hired. Also, the ADA prohibits employers to discriminate disabled people in means of recruitment, job applications procedures, pay rates, and promotions. The second title, Title II, “Requires all state and local government agencies to make all of their services accessible to individuals with disability” (NAD 22).
