Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.
•What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?
Discrimination means treating someone or something different or unequally based on age, gender, class, race, culture and religion. It can also lead to harassment causing harm. Discrimination can happen anywhere in a workplace, housing, or in the streets. Discrimination can be different from prejudice and stereotypes in many ways, discrimination is based on solely you’re own action and behavior on someone or something that is different as to prejudice is a negative opinion and feeling about someone or something based on other groups without having any knowledge of whether its false or true. Stereotyping is a prejudgment assuming that a certain group have the same traits, assuming that they are all the same.
•What are the causes of discrimination?
Many causes of discrimination can come from your natural instincts, caused by the feeling of empowerment, ignorance, and stereotyping. Personal feelings and or attitudes about members of a minority group, based on race, gender, national origin, disability and origin. Discrimination can also be caused by influences from other, wanting to be accepted by a group, people tend to divide themselves from different groups, and this can cause discrimination between the groups. I think wanting to feel wanted causes discrimination, when someone feels isolated he or she will tend to fight back and do anything to feel noticed this can cause extreme acts of violence.
•How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?
I believe that different societies will discriminate against things differently but it is all the same act of behavior or feeling, for example in some countries women are discriminating simply by being born a women and sometimes killed for being a women or taking any action only men can, whereas someone who is homosexual would be killed no matter what. These stereotypes come from different groups but they are both discriminated by being different. It is all the same act of hatred towards one another, white people can discriminate and have hatred towards blacks, where blacks can discriminate and have hatred towards whites.
