1. Please state your name and age for the record My name is Harper Marmalard and I am 22 years old.
2. Why are you in this courtroom today? I have been wrongfully accused of first degree murder in the tragedy involving a fellow classmate of mine, Mandy Pepperidge. She was also a member of the same Greek honor society as me.
3. Could you please describe this honor society for the jury? Zeta Iota Pi, or ZIP, was the top honor society at Kalmia. We have had some of the most successful alumni in our school’s history. During my senior year, I served as pledge master.
4. And what did being pledge master mean? I had the responsibility of selecting the new pledge members for ZIP for the freshman class.
5. Is this how you came to know Many Pepperidge? Yes, I personally selected her for membership. I thought she was a perfect fit for ZIP.
6. What was your relationship with Ms. Pepperidge after she became a pledge in ZIP? It was up and down. I tried to treat all the pledges equally. I did have a few run ins with Mandy but nothing major.
7. What kind of “run ins”, as you put it? She was upset about certain Feats of Fortitude that we did.
8. What are these Feats of Fortitude? They are challenges that build character that are traditions in ZIP.
9. Can you please shed some light on some of these challenges for the jury? The first one was the ice bucket challenge. Then a Harlem shake video and the cinnamon challenge.
10. Did any problems result from any of these challenges with Ms. Pepperidge? Well, the ice bucket challenge went smoothly. The Harlem shake video led the pledges to find a paper that indicated that there was cheating going on and the cinnamon challenge that led to Mandy being hospitalized and I stayed with her the whole time.
11. So to your knowledge, was Professor Boone giving any other ZIP members the same type of assignment you were receiving? Yes, it was kind of an open secret in ZIP that taking his/her class
