Explain the policies, procedures and practices for safe working with Children and Young people

The main ones are as follows:
Children’s Act 1989 safeguarding in relation to children and young people. This includes Child protection enquiries. Working together to Safeguard Children (DCSF, 2010, Amended in 2012).
The Children’s Act (every child matters 2004) and Safeguarding Vulnerable Group’s Act 2006, Data Protection Act (1998) We use the local policies and procedures even though we do have our own, which is as follows Policy and Procedures on the Protection, Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children (incorporating the Safeguarding Children Supervision Guidance and Guidance on Child Visiting).South west Yorkshire partnership.

Our policy has the ultimate purpose of the following:
To ensure that the abuse of the individual is avoided
To comply with the Independent safeguarding Authority (DBS) requirements.
To comply with the guidelines in the “no secrets” publication.
To comply with regulation 18 of the CQC (Registration) Regulations 2009.
To ensure awareness of wider safeguarding powers.
To comply with the protection of children (Scotland) Act 2003 (Pocsa)
We have a local set of guidelines for child abuse reporting and as such this takes presidencies over our own policy. The local policy is contained in our policies and procedures in the office.
The local Policy is designed to support all staff within Barnsley whatever their role in the organisation and whoever they work with, in fulfilling their legal duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
The policy highlights the main aims which agencies must ensure they follow

Take all reasonable measures to ensure that they minimise risk of harm to the welfare of children

Take appropriate action when there are child protection concerns, by or working to agreed local policies and procedures, in full partnership with other agencies
