Communication skills are very important to personal or professional life. Manuscriptedit (Dec.2011) says, “Communicating the intended message clearly and effectively is an important skill, which is often a key factor in deciding the chances of success.” I feel I need to improve that skill, maybe because I’m a leaner of the English language - which isn’t my mother one - and I feel like my vocabulary needs to be improved. College is being a great help though but even before I was organising my time and taking a few hours during the week to read a book, newspapers or magazine.…

In English I wrote a letter to my parents were I was not good at writing and speaking. Also, I notice that when I read my paragraphs it wouldn't make sense I was a terrible writer my paragraphs wouldn't focus in one thing. I think I have gotten better at writing and speaking because when I read the gratitude letter to my teacher, friends to correct me and correct the mistake that I made in my rough draft. I have improved by reading it to other persons. Also so when I used to read it to my parents I would stutter and get nervous.so that's how I improved in my speaking, writing. Also, the part I need to improve was in my listening because I wouldn't listen when people would correct me. I wouldn't listen to them when they were speaking or giving lessons how to get better in speaking, writing. so that I would improve. I now listen to people that give me lessons on how to write, speak better because they hear me and read my paragraphs. So now I improve in a lot of things because I get lesson from other people. If I wouldn't listen to people that give me advice about my paragraphs I don't know where I'll be right now. So that how I have grown in the different sections of skills for academic…

Reading a paper aloud makes errors a lot more noticeable rather than reading silently. A professor once to told me this is very effective and to date I must say that it works. One of the strategies I will continue to use to improve my writing skills will be reading more often. In addition, my vocabulary is another area that needs improvement. . I think I tend to struggle sometimes even if I know what I want to say but the words are hard to come. To help build my vocabulary, I have created my vocabulary journal. I read more books, magazines and newspapers now. I highlight all the words that are unknown to me. I write down the words along with the definition and I construct sentences with it. I review it o a daily basis so that it becomes a part of me. I have taken the initiative to sign up for the toastmasters club as this will help as I practice my oratorical skill and writing…

All people have their own strengths and weaknesses in English. I’m good at reading, but I do not have enough confidence in my speaking ability, although I try hard to practice now. In fact, I learned English when I was nine years old. At the very beginning, English was just like a new world for me, since Chinese literature is really different, so I learned grammar and vocabulary carefully, earnestly. Now, it’s joyful for me to study at San Marino High school, and I desire to get a good score in English. In the past, I usually did reading practice when I lived in Shanghai. For instance, I read one English book with my classmates per month, then my teacher would give us a quiz which about that book’s details, and the quiz could prove whether we understand those stories completely. This example explains why I think I do well in reading. Beyond that point, I lacked practice in speaking. Despite the fact that I can read English articles fluently, I am afraid of talking with other foreign people, since my sentences all have grammar mistakes, and these will make other people feel strange and hard to understand, so I seldom communicate with other people, and that’s why my speaking can not improve. For the reason, I have decided to solve my problems with speaking. For example, I answer my teacher’s questions energetically, and even though my answer is wrong sometimes, I still try to make a statement. Gradually, I find my speaking ability is better than before, and this makes me want to endeavor continually. To cut a long story short, I know my reading is greater than my speaking, and determined not only to maintain my strengths, but also to improve my shortcomings.…

Traditionally, more attention was paid to some skills (reading and writing) while the others (speaking and listening) were forgotten and not practiced. Nowadays, in order to do this integration, teachers make use of different methodologies in second language acquisition, but all of them agree with the fact that a communicative approach is the most fruitful one in the learning of a foreign language.…
