Enzymes are biological molecules, or proteins, that act as catalysts. Enzymes help complex reactions so that they may occur everywhere in life. For example, when you eat meat, the proteases work to help break down the peptide bonds that occur among the amino acids. Enzymes usually work to complete one specific job which makes them specific catalysts. They also won’t be found all over the body, enzymes are found in neural cells, intestinal cells, and saliva. Enzymes are among the many organic macromolecules, they specifically belong to the proteins. Proteins are made of amino acids which link together to be folded into a three-dimensional figure. When they are at higher temperatures enzymes denature, which means to stop working. Enzymes have a part called the active site, which is when certain molecules bind to the enzyme and a reaction happens. Homeostasis is maintained by the vital organs, enzymes, waste management functions, and food and water. It’s then converted into energy and used to fuel other parts of the body. Some situations will contain multiple substrate molecules that the enzyme will change. The enzyme grabs on to the substrate in the active site, this is called the substrate complex. Catalysis happens when the substrate is changed, it will break or build chemical bond and you will be left with a products complex. Because of this Patrick either loses the ability of that enzyme to catalyze its substrate or the loss of ability to regulate that one enzyme to cause his disorder. Patrick was unable to move therefore that goes back to synthesizing the muscle movement. If the muscles can’t properly work with one another then you have a shortage of muscles. The movement that takes place requires energy that comes from the cells storing energy in many ways. Patrick’s body is unable to store energy which is why he isn’t able to move or function properly causing him to become paralyzed. Therefore, Patrick cannot store protein that helps him to move which show that the catalysis is malfunctioning because the proteins aren’t being broken down to be stored.     For Activity A, we first tested enzyme activity. First, we used an H2O2 syringe to transfer 10 mL of H2O2 into an unlabeled 60-mL cup. Then, we used a transfer pipet to add one mL of catalase solution into the unlabeled 60-mL cup that we put H2O2 in. After that, we observed the solution for one minute. Then we tested the effect of boiling on enzyme activity. First we used a transfer pipet to transfer 4 mL of catalase into a test tube. After that, we placed the test tube filled with catalase in a boiling water bath for five minutes. While we were waiting, we rinsed the unlabeled cup we used earlier when we tested enzyme activity. Then we used a H2O2 syringe to transfer 10 mL of H2O2 into the rinsed unlabeled cup. After five minutes, we transferred 1 mL of the boiling catalase into the unlabeled cup with H2O2 in it with an unused transfer pipet and observed the results. After testing the effect of boiling on enzyme activity, we tested for catalase in living tissue. First, we rinsed the unlabeled 60 mL cup we used earlier. Then, we used a scalpel to cut a small piece of liver. After that, we macerated the piece of liver with a glass rod.
