Differences Between The Outsiders Book And Movie
Bob, I heard you were trying to decide if you wanted to read the book Outsiders, or watch the movie. I have both read the book and watched the movie. Coming to a conclusion on which is better, I would say that the book is better by far. One reason I like the book more than the movie is that the movie leaves out some very important scenes out of the plot. For example, one very important part left out by the movie is the very beginning of the story, when the main character has something traumatising happen to him. I think that was a mistake not having it in the movie. I also didn’t enjoy the movie as well because you miss out on certain details you can only see through literature. One type of detail the movie never has is Pony’s thought

    However, the book and the movie do have their similarities. In the beginning of both the movie and the book, the main characters of the movie, Ponyboy Curtis, Dallas Winston, and Johnny Cade, are revealed. Both versions of The Outsiders also show the situation that the Greasers are in. For an example, the book shows the situation that the Greasers are in when Ponyboy is jumped by the Socs while the movie also shows their situation through how they look and act when they head to the movies. Though they have their similarities, both the book and the movie have their differences. The beginning of the book shows an important scene not included in the movie where Ponyboy is jumped by the Socs. This is important because not only does it show who the Greasers are but also the Socs. In the movie, there is no introduction of the Socs as Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johnny go to the movies. As a result, the book emotionally connects to the audience more through this scene making it an important reason why the book is better than the movie.     It contains very strong theme about dysfunctional family, use of drugs and crime. I guess the board of education was afraid that the students will imitate the events in the book. However, I understand why they decided to re-allow it in schools. The author, who wrote this book around our age really wanted to deliver that we can all live together in peace and conflict only bring more conflict. Although the family in the Outsiders wasn’t the best family you could ask for, they had so much love inside them they didn’t actually portray to each other. They just didn’t know the right way to express it. I would rate this book 4/5 because of the effectiveness of the author trying to deliver her message in a coherent manner. I highly recommend all teenagers to read this book. Overall, I think this compelling story will grasp even the most reluctant readers thanks to the deep bond of sympathy.
