Differences Between Freak The Mighty
Freak the Mighty and The Mighty. The Mighty is the movie while the other is the book. Both the film and the book are about two boys who bond and have a unique friendship. There are many scenes from the movie that differ from the book. Those stages include Tony D.(Blade) who throws a basketball at Kevin, a restaurant scene that was not included in the book. Finally, Kevin was never his tutor in the writing.
Let's begin with Tony D hitting Kevin with a basketball. In the scene Tony D is playing basketball I guess for a “practice, ” and when Kevin is walking to the exit door he slides a basketball like a bowling ball and it hits Kevin knocking him over. Tony then blames Maxwell for hitting Kevin with the basketball and Max has to help Kevin

Kevin is a lot smarter than Max and this helps them in many of their situations. When Max and Kevin were sent to the principal’s office, Kevin used his higher intelligence to tell the Principal that they hadn’t done anything truly wrong. The book quotes “she fell for it” (pg 81).This also helps when Kevin needs to tell Max what to do urgently and Max doesn’t argue since he knows that Freak is really smart.…

My favorite book is aptly entitled Freaks and Revelations by Davida Hurwin. In the “faction” novel, two teenage boys live every opposite lives. One boy, Doug, a 17 year old punk rock skinhead, lives a life of hatred and anger, yet unfound innocence. On the opposite end Jason, a gay 13 year old, finds himself shedding every ounce of innocence to survive on the streets after his family kicks him out for being homosexual. Although they lead two different lives, the two boys find themselves on the same West Hollywood St in an encounter that would change both lives forever.…

There are many major differences and important similarities between the film, The Mghty, and the book, Freak the Mighty. One of the major differences between the book and the film is that in the film Freak dies in his sleep on christmas but in the book he dies in the hospital after having a stroke. One of the major and important similarities of the book is when Freak and Max are at the firework show and Freak keeps complaining that he can’t see. In both the book and the film Max reaches down without thinking and picks Freak on his shoulders so that he can see. The difference in the book occurs in chapter 24 when it states “ Now more nurses are coming out of the ICU.” it also states “ But what really happened was his heart just got too big…

The small town and its people are very set in their ways and are reluctant to change. The exceptionally engaging film, Hoop Dreams goes deep into the life that surrounds basketball. To make it, a player has to be something more then just a good player. They need to be belligerent, well trained, surpass academically, and unaware of anything that doesn't include basketball. The highly thought out, and heartrending film closely records the lives of two Chicago teenagers as we watch their struggle of basketball, to become the best.…

Kevin is the oldest of three children in the Buckman household and turns nine years of age midway through the film. One of the beginning scenes consists of Kevin’s mother asking his father to attend a meeting with Kevin’s principal because “his teacher said he was making that face again.” The mother, Karen, continues to explain that it is not just the face, but the “crying, the nervousness…the fact that he cannot finish his work.” Karen then discloses the fact that the teacher had recently asked whether or not Kevin had ever received a psychiatric evaluation. During the meeting with the principal and the child psychologist (that has been observing Kevin over the past couple of months,) the principal suggests transferring Kevin to a special education school so that he can join a class for children with “emotional problems.” From the very onset of the film, it is apparent that the anxiety Kevin experiences impacts his day-to-day life and the ways in which others perceive him.…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

Another difference between the movie and the book are the animals that attacked Brian while he was in the wilderness. In the movie the bear attacked Brian and destroyed his shelter and he wrestled and injured the bear. Also in the movie Brian got attacked by a raccoon. While in the book Brian sees the bear but doesn’t have any physical contact with her. In the book Brian got attacked by a moose and a skunk. In this event I discovered some differences but also some similarities like the wolf, porcupine and the mosquitoes attack.…
