Differences Between Francis And Doughty
Queen Elizabeth sent Francis out along the Pacific coast of South America in late 1577. Elizabeth also gave him the task of exploring the Northwestern coast of North America under the table in hopes to find a trading passage. Francis had five vessels for the journey. Among his crew was John Winter, a commander of one of the sea vessels, and officer Thomas Doughty. Intense tensions were uproared between Francis and Doughty during the trip, possibly drove by political intrigue. After arriving off the coast of Argentina, Francis had Doughty put in jail with the charges of planned mutiny. After a short and a tiny bit illegal trial, Doughty was “proven” guilty and executed.
