Dietary Reference Intake
About half of all American adults have one or more chronic diseases due to poor diet. The Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) has translated nutrient recommendations into a Dietary Guideline for Americans. This guideline is designed to help people maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and build a healthy eating pattern including recommendations for physical activity. This guideline is reviewed and revised every five years as needed. Overall, the point of the guideline is to show Americans how to live a more healthy and active lifestyle. The first part of the guideline focuses on balancing kcalories by improving eating habits and regular exercise. People need to be active, because a sedentary lifestyle is unhealthy.
