Why Did I Get Married is a movie about four couples and the problems they were faced with. Each couple faces different issues such as money problems, infidelity, mental abuse, and much more. I believe this movie ties into Women Studies very well because it does not just address one issue that relates to the class but multiple. Another reason why I picked this movie is because I believe that every couple deal with similar problems to the ones in the movie.
Terry and Diane are both hard working parents with one child. Diane is a lawyer that works all the time and barely spends time with her husband and daughter. She breaks the stereotype of a house wife. She works so much that she is never home to cook or clean the house. Her husband Terry has to attend to the household chores.
The couple with the most problems in the movie was Sheila and Mike. Mike mentally abused Sheila by talking about her weight, and by criticizing everything about her, such as the things she wore or the way she looked. Mike was controlling by taking all of Sheila’s money and making her do what he said. Mike ended up leaving her for Trina which was suppose to be Sheila’s friend. …show more content…
Patricia was a therapist and an author of a book that talked about how to deal with issues in your marriage. Helping others distracted her from seeing that her husband was unhappy in their relationship. The lost of their son was a major part of their relationship deteriorating. Patricia blames herself for not taking extra precautions to make sure her sons seat belt was fastened. From a mother perspective this shows how a mother wants to be able to be there and help their child through everything. She took her job as mother seriously that is why it hurt her so much to lose her
