This passage shows Roosevelt’s commitment to US and his enthusiasm to improve america, he acknowledges the suffering in america and vows to face it head on. He wanted to to make improvements right away and use his position to do so, unlike his pretisessior he believed that the government existed to work for and help the people. Part of the reason he was so well liked was that he got right to work and never stopped working and used scholars and real people to help solve problems. The passage mentions that within the first one hundred days of his presidency he passes a constant stream of bills, acts, and was in the process of making programs to speed up economic recovery and to relieve poverty. It is a matter of fact how well the American presidents have done their jobs in order to make America one of the most powerful countries. The one who left the biggest mark in my opinion was Theodore Roosevelt. He accomplished things that made America great. He was a man with a great education, who studied at an extremely prestigious university like Harvard. Two of his features that definitely made him unforgettable were his will to change things the best way possible and his charisma that obviously grabbed the attention and the esteem of the American folk.…

Donald Trump’s call to “Make America Great Again” has polarized the nation, and is a very current and relevant example of corruption and violence infecting a modern revolution. Although unlike his liberal counterpart Bernie Sanders he hasn’t actually called for a “political revolution,” Donald Trump’s radical policies would be just as much of a departure from traditional American politics. He calls for the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants, a wall on the Mexican border, a ban on Muslims, and for companies based elsewhere to bring their jobs back to the United States. Ever since Trump gained the national spotlight he has been criticized for his Trump University scam and inciting violence among his supporters. When Trump University…

People have rioted against Uncle Sam, like the South during the Civil War and to some the Ferguson rioters. Often times people riot only because they feel they are unheard by their government and only want solutions to their problems. Riots have long been a part of American history, America itself was birthed from a riot against the tyrannical British power. How can a nation be calm when schools are terrorized, people of color are murdered by police officers with no consequences, marathoners are bombed, buildings are blown up and thousands of men and women are sent off to war to fight a war they sometimes don’t even understand? Clearly, America is not calm but is instead very tempestuous. Acts of free speech are labeled and attacked in the media as riots while true riots, like those at a mall in Kentucky on December 28th, 2015 or at a beer festival in Tampa, Florida in March, 2014 are ignored and laughed at instead of treated as the actual pointless and dangerous riots they…

Just as Harvard Professor , Dr. Henry Louis Gates stated, America has a history of repeating history. Just as President Obama's election was a major victory for Black Americans, President Trumps could lead to our demise. Dr. Gates gave an example of the Reconstruction Era and how it held great promises and opportunity for people of color, but once a new president was elected all that was deconstructed and taken away from people of colors. He used that analogy to describe Obama vs Trump Presidency. Fortunately this is only a prediction since we do not know what direction America will turn since President elect Trump has yet to take office. If President Trumps term where to have a negative effect on people of color or minorities in general, the best way to get him out of office would not be to protest but to strike. Although America is a Democratic country it values capitalism. If we strike the country's economy it would have a devastating effect and really force the government to listen to its people. Although I did not vote for President Trump, I am staying optimistic about his presidency. Although there were many things he talked about that I did not agree with, there were points in…

In 2017 alone, 880 people have been shot and killed by police. In 2017, as of November 20, there have been 21 more fatal police shootings than the previous year. This tells us that instead of trying to handle the situation in a civil manner, police officers are using excessive force and irrational actions to take care of things. This brutality has been a major point in national news over the past years, and for good reason. These 880 shootings if kept steady through December would add up to 979, 16 more shootings than last year. This is undeniable proof that instead of trying to resolve this issue, police are shrugging it off. It also shows how much more public attention this subject needs in order for a meaningful change. Instead of 2017 being…

This is a country where many unarmed civilians have suffered injuries or been killed at the hands of police officers. Drastic changes are needed to solve the issue of police brutality. Such excessive force by police officers is very disturbing to the community. People around the country are fighting for a country where law enforcement treats all communities with dignity, employs restraint on the power police officers, and only use the necessary force to maintain the community’s safety. Over the years there have many cases involving police brutality such as the cases of Rodney King, Timothy Thomas, and Eric Garner. Many people feel that nothing has changed with the issue of police brutality since juries still acquitted police officers, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. But change has occurred and some things have become better as a result of it being publicized and causing public outrage.…
