Dicks Sporting Goods Mission Statement
Dicks Sporting Goods Mission Statement
Dicks Sporting Goods, “Dicks,” is a great in store and online retailer that carries a very extensive assortment of name brand products. They specialize in products which range from sports equipment like footwear and apparel to equipment for outdoors activities like hunting, fishing and hiking. With a superstore format, Dicks offers a wide variety of merchandise from large vendors such as Nike, Calloway, Columbia Sportswear, and Adidas. The company was founded in 1948 by Dick Stack at the age of 18. Stack came up with the idea while working at an Army surplus store in Binghamton, New York. The owner wanted to get Stack’s opinion on whether it would be a good idea for the store to offer fishing bait and tackle gear. Stack immensely approved and composed a marketing plan on his own time. When he presented his plan to the store owner, he was shocked at his boss’s rejection and his comments that Stack “would never make a good merchant.” While nursing his wounded pride after hearing the comments from his boss, Stack’s grandmother gave him three hundred dollars to start his own business and encouraged him to pursue his dreams. As an avid fisherman, Stack opened his own bait and tackle shop in Binghamton and by 1958 he expanded the product line to include most of the things you can find in Dicks Sporting Goods stores across America today. In 1984, Dick Stack retired and his son, Edward, took over the company and began the massive expansion of the store into a sporting goods superstore. Today, Dick 's has “451 stores in 42 states, 81 Golf Galaxy stores and an online site”. (wikipedia)
Dicks’ target markets are very diverse and can range from a variety of potential buyers of different age and gender. Dicks doesn’t just target one demographic, however they do a really good job of targeting families that will bring in more revenue. The company supplies many different types of female and male apparel for all sports, along with

When it comes to sporting goods, there are not many stores to choose from. Of the few stores around the United States, there are two stores at the top. These stores being: Dick’s Sporting Goods and Academy Sports and Outdoors. Auburn and the surrounding area are lucky enough to have both. They each have their pros and cons, like any store, but for the sport enthusiast Dick’s is the way to go. In Auburn, Alabama my general census stays true that Dick’s Sporting Goods is the better of the two due to its convenience, goods and services, and price compared to quality.…

Bass Pro Shops were created out of frustration of a fisherman that could not find any tackle in his town. So in 1971, Johnny Morris rented a U-Haul and headed across America filling the truck with the newest tackle as he went. Once Johnny had finished, he returned home to Springfield, Missouri, and started his own fishing business with eight feet of space in his father’s liquor store (Bass pro shops, 2012). This became a starting point for many fishermen in the Ozark’s famous bass lakes. In 1974, after much demand, Johnny created a catalog that started his business booming. Today, there are 65 Bass Pro Shops in the world as well as catalog and Internet shopping available. This was a new and exciting business for the sportsmen from all over the world until September 2011.…

There are four boys who each have something to say. The first is Dyjae, 15, Jordany,14, and Tyler,15. All of these teenagers are African Americans who have struggled in life and they all have a similar story. What connects them all is the fact that they each lost a parent or both parents and is trying to provide for themselves. An example of this is one lost both mom and dad, one at the age of 12 and the other recently. They all have one thing that they all comeback to which is Lacrosse. Lacrosse is their getaway. When they play nothing else matters and they forget about everything. Its their comfort zone. The thing that feels right. Another aspect that’s presented in this commercial is the drive that each of them have to be successful, the inspiration and the heart. It shows they play for two things: their parents that they’ve lost and themselves. The teenagers want to get better every day. Practicing in the rain. Whatever satisfies them. Dicks Sporting goods is giving them their spotlight and a voice to tell their story to the world. Showing everyone doesn’t always have to be labeled as bad. People can change and be successful. Referring back to the commercial when one of the boys said, “I used to be disrespectful and often mean, but that changed when I started playing…

I would say that Bass Pro’s target market is anyone that enjoys the outdoors. Though most would say they might focus a little more on the male aspect of things, I feel that they are very accommodating to women and children as well. If you are into hunting, fishing, boating, camping, cooking, shooting, golfing, river sports, etc. you are going to find what you are looking for at Bass Pro. I think that originally yes they were geared more toward males around 20 to 50 years of age, but with the evolution of a woman’s place in our society I think they have moved with the times just fine. I know as a woman it is one of my favorite stores to visit.…
