Dialogue
I wanted to watch a movie last weekend. I like watching movies, as they are interesting and allow people to learn something about moral values of others or simply enable people to relax and have some fun. I called my best friend Sarah to have a girl’s night out; she promised to watch the movie with me. Besides, we could eat together after the movie, which was a great change to go out and chat about some things that require a relaxed setting. I was waiting for that day, especially because we are arranged everything and agreed to spend an evening together having fun.
The day arrived; we decided to drive one car to save more time and costs. So I went to Sarah’s house, but she was not ready yet and I had to wait for her. My mom called me all of a sudden. I do not like when others overhear my phone calls. Therefore, I went to the patio talking with my mom, because Sarah needed more time: she was very anxious about being seen by others with no make-up. As such, she puts on her make-up every time she goes out with her friends and even with her family. I did not think that process required so much time. After having talked with my mom on the phone, I returned to my friend, but Sarah has not even dressing. Thank God, at least she was done with her make-up. Nevertheless, it was strange how different girls needed different time to get ready for a movie.
I did not expect that night to be so strange, but it turned out to open my eyes. I was a little impatient and asked, “Are you going out with me, Sarah? I was waiting for you more than half an hour already!”
Sarah did not realize, however, that her actions were irritating me. Was it that difficult to arrange oneself for a particular time and be ready to go? I did not expect that my friend would let me down.
“I don't know what to wear, and I don't have much clothes to choose from,” Sarah explained. Though it is considered one of the usual problems girls often face, it kept irritating me every additional minute.
Finally, Sarah continued, “Can we go shopping instead of watching a movie? Watching a movie makes me sleepy.”
“Sarah, you make me speechless! I have nothing to say!” I scolded.
“I’m sorry, I brought you a dinner tonight? How’s that?” Sarah begged.
“Do you remember that you promised me to watch a movie together?” I questioned.
“Yes, I remembered. I’m sorry that I didn't have mood to watch a movie today!” Sarah murmured by herself, and she felt sorry.
“You still promise me even though you don't like watch a movie in the theater!”
That was it! That was the overall reason for spending countless hours with her make-up and making me wait and loose my patience. Since Sarah disliked movies, and I didn't want her to sleep in the cinema, I decided to go shopping with her. It was a compromise to which friends usually agree for one another. “OK, I will go shopping with you.” I responded with an unhappy voice.
“Really? I know you are the best! I will go watch a movie with you next time for sure!” Sarah giggled.
“No more next, OK?” I mentioned.
I did not know if I could trust her any other time, because she let me down once, and could do that again easily. So, the best option would be to go and watch the movie alone without arranging it with Sarah.

Like almost other kids, she was trying to follow whatever her older brothers do. But because she is a girl, so instead of getting a gun, she could only play with her bow and arrow. This is the turning point of the story, when the “accident” happed and completely changed Alice’s life. She was shot in the eye by the BB gun of her brothers. The doctor said that Alice would likely to be blind, not only one but both eyes. She was terrified but what she care the most is not about whether she could see or not. It is her beautiful that she cared about. She scared how people would look at “the glop of whitish scar” on her eyes. She was no longer the prettiest and the cutest girl. For six years, Alice did not raise her head and stare at anyone. The scare took everything from her: her beauty, her pride and her person from inside. Alice asked her mother and sister whether she changed. What does she really mean by the word “change”? Her beauty or her personality? The answer was “no” but this was because Alice’s mother and sister did not want to hurt her or because they really thought that she had never changed? What they saw in her is her personality not her appearance. However, Alice at that time was only a little girl. I do not expect she will care or think deeper about things and people around her. The eight years old girl only cared that people would never admire or applauded her again. To the little Alice, beauty was too…

In “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” the author uses clothes as a symbol to reveal our protagonist and antagonist individualities. Connie who is our protagonist is a fifteen-year-old girl who has the habit of craning her neck to glance into mirrors. Connie wears a pullover jersey blouse that looked one way when she is home and another way when she is away, in where she wears shorts. In the text, it states that “They must have been familiar sights walking around the shopping plaza in their shorts and flat ballerina slippers that always scuffed the sidewalk, with charm bracelets jingling on their wrist” (Oates 836). In other words, Connie uses clothes to look attractive, and mature by older men by wearing short clothes, most importantly she believes she is pretty, which also plays a role in her actions and the kinds of clothes she wears. Whereas, the…

“Now now David, just one more, then your changing clothes?” Marie said in a soft and gentle voice. I ran to her, tackled her to the dry ground, wrapping my freckled arms around her bony blemished body and suddenly I got scared I’ll break her to pieces. “Ok David, go have a shower before Mrs. Hayden gets here. You don’t want Marie getting into trouble right?” Ronnie broke the moment. You see, my mother is not one of those typical mothers that stayed in the house. She is usually out and with Marie; I don’t feel blue at all. I'm only twelve years old and leaving in such a small town, I can pretty much do what I want as long as I get home before mum or dad does. Marie never tells on me anyway.…

Our blind date was late for 45 minutes; I started to get angry and annoyed, so I said ‘’ I knew it; this is why I hate online dating. I am leaving this stupidity.” In the same instant, she walked in, and the time stopped. It was the girl of my dreams, with big hazel eyes piercing through my soul. With her glowing skin, modest elegance and discrete makeup, she had style and glamour of classic Hollywood beauty. Simple five word ‘’ Hi, my name is Johana” made me feel as I know her for decades. In contradiction, Sergio and her sister Andrea left us almost immediately, as they didn’t have any mutual connection. The hours slipped by like seconds; we kept talking about countless subjects, oblivious of our surroundings; it turned out that we are like long lost twins reunited again. As we liked the same book (“The Forth Agreement”), food, sports, and even held the identical views on morality and…

A shocking trend is gaining ground in teen dressing. For example, last summer, my 13-year-old daughter needed a dress to attend a friend's birthday dinner. What we found was a black “something” (is what I will call it) with a neckline so low that my condition for buying it was a fill-in-the-gap black undergarment. She was not happy about it but complied.…

In today’s current society it is important to wear appropriate clothing. With society fetishizing girls at younger and younger ages, girls are instructed to self-objectify and see themselves as sexual objects, something to be looked at. A laundry list of problems can come from obsessing over one’s appearance: eating disorders, depression, low self-worth. By applying a dress code that can teach a young girl self respect and provide a moral and dignifying perspective of ones self will give less room for a disorder to manifest.…
