Mysore is a heritage city. Our College SDMIMD, Mysore arranged a trip to Dharmasthala on 17th June,2011. We are packed in three KSRTC buses and a Van. It was 23:30 hrs when we reached a guest house with modern amenities which is run by SDM trust . On June 18, 2011, early morning we started to Dharmasthala temple. Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy temple is in Belthangadi taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. It is on the banks of Nethravathi river. This is a temple of Lord Shiva and has a golden Linga in it. This temple is different from all others, as it is run by a Jain administritation and poojas are performed by Hindu priests. On an average, around 10,000 people visit the temple every day.

Lord Shri Manjunatheshwara
Dharmasthala is a famous Hindu religious shrine of South India with about 700 years of History. The presiding deity of Dharmasthala is Lord Manjunatha Swamy reincarnation of Lord Shiva. The temple is managed by the Heggades who is considered to be the speaking Manjunatha. The Heggade position a hereditary one, is being passed on from generation to generation. The present Heggade, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is the 21st in the lineage.
Free food is served for all pilgrims. Good accommodation facility is also provided by the temple authority. For the convenience of pilgrims, a number of rooms that formed the accommodation at the old dharmasthala's Ganga, Kaveri and Narmada has been augmented by seven modern guest houses Netravathi, Vaishali, Sharavathi, Gayatri, Gangotri and Saketha which have increased the capacity manifold. Sri D. Harshendra Kumar, brother of Sri Veerendra Heggade, has been managing the affairs of the various departments of Dharmasthala by rendoring yeoman service.

When it came down to me finding out where I wanted to do my site visitation for this class, it was actually a lot harder than I thought. I grew up in a household that had Hindu morals and values, however, my parents’ view on religion were quite vague. Growing up we never attended church (temple) and the only time we celebrated any religious holiday is when our grandparents came around. My parents believed in allowing my little sister and I to grow into our own religious beliefs. At first I considered practicing Christianity because most of my friends are Christian and I figured it would give me an opportunity to learn more about them. I ended up attended a service at a Baptist Church called New Birth Baptist Church located in North Miami, but when I sat down to write the paper I had nothing interesting to write about. I started researching different religions and finally came across a Buddhist temple called Wat Buddharangsi.…

The Rajarajeshwara temple at Thanjavur , was built by Raja Raja Chola I, in ca 1010 c.e. The massive temple is made out of granite and it’s decorated with multiple carvings. Above this intricate place of worship sits a massive round stone cap. The mast atop this capstone serves as an axis mundi in order to connect the earth to heaven. The Rajarajeshwara temple is another temple dedicated to Shiva. Today the temple still functions as a sacred place for followers of Hindu to worship. Here worshipers gather and “circumambulate around the lingam shrine” (83). This monumental temple also functions as a reminder of the greatness of the powerful king Rajaraja who built…

The Child By Tiger by Thomas Wolfe The story, "The Child By Tiger" written by Thomas Wolfe, is primarily interpretive literature, not escape literature. "Escape literature" is written purely for pleasure, while "interpretive literature" is written for pleasure and to help us understand the world around us. Interpretive literature educates, asks questions about life and presents some aspects of life that we may not want to face. " The Child by Tiger" is interpretive literature because of the way the author presents the story, the way it ends, the way it educates us, and especially how it helps us understand man's darker nature.…
