Part 1: To be an effective writer, the use of pathos is extremely important. When used correctly, pathos can evoke a strong feeling of compassion and sympathy. With these feelings, an audience can relate to the subject the author is portraying. The Food Network last year created a public service announcement for starving children within the United States. The public service announcement, No Kid Hungry, does an excellent job at expressing a feeling of sympathy to it's audience. The first scene of the video shows a little girl in overalls, dirty and standing in the middle of an empty road. A cheery smile usually placed on a child's face, is nonexistent. The audience can feel the girl's unhappiness just by looking at her saddened facial expressions. Next, the camera shows the same little girl with a cardboard sign that reads, "Im hungry". As the settling in of the idea that an innocent little girl is unhappy and starving somewhere in the United States, the feeling of pity grows in the bottom of the audience stomaches. The video goes on to show other little kids in the same manner. Emotions such as the ones this video conveys, give people the motivation to act. The purpose of this video is to motivate people to take the "No Kid Hungry" pledge and help stop child hunger. Public service announcements such as this one, are very effective in what they set out to do: get people to support their cause. If the use of Pathos was not present through out the commercial, people would feel much less inclined to do anything to help starving children living in the United States. Part 2:

The ad is presented in black and white to show sadness and loneliness.     I like Songkran festival more than Holi festival . For the first reason , I am thai not Hindu .The colorful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which comes in February end or early March which a clod season. I don’t like a cold weater . While Songkran festival , April 12-15, is the traditional Thai New Year. This is the time for Thais to pay homage to Buddha images, clean their houses, and sprinkle water on their elders in a show of respect. The second reason that I like Songkran festival is The Thai people celebrate this festival with water. Everyone gets soaking wet and since it is the hottest season of the year, the custom is quite refreshing. Songkran is a Public Spring Cleaning Day, supported by the religious belief that anything old and useless must be thrown away or it will bring bad luck to the owner. Holi festival people celebrate this festival with color. The third reason is I can pour scented water into the hands of elders and parents as a mark of respect while seeking the blessing of the older people.
