ABSTRACT
Natural fibers have become new alternative materials that can replace petroleum-based plastic, either alone or combined with another material, to produce greener composite materials. One of the most important natural fibers is pineapple peel fiber. Pineapple peel fiber which have high content of cellulose, low density, abundance and low cost, have the potential for polymer reinforcement. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of corn starch film reinforced with Pineapple Peel fiber. Testing procedure was formulated using extended MECMESIN Advance Force Gauge AFG 25N in Licton Industrial Corporation, which specializes in the production of plastic, located in Valenzuela City, Philippines. Tensile strength was tested with the 2cm x 1cm part of the film and 0.12 mm thickness. As a result, the tensile strength of the biofilm is 232 MPa. The result shows that the film lasted for 1 second with the force of 340.5000 g and was converted to 232 MPa which resulted to low tensile strength. Keywords: pineapple peel, natural fiber, film, tensile strength
INTRODUCTION
Plastics have grown throughout the modern world because of their usefulness. Plastics can be flexible or rigid, brittle or resilient, clear or colored, and have many other useful properties. Some plastics are electrically conductive while others are excellent insulators. Plastics emerged onto the global manufacturing scene as the wonder material of the present generation. However, plastics have gone from being a manufacturing wonder material to being a hazardous consumer waste material due to its destructive environmental impact. Due to its cost and evolving hindrances, awareness turned to action giving birth

Recycling greatly benefits many aspects of the world, particularly the environment. Almost everything used in today’s society is manufactured from plastic (i.e. water/ shampoo/ mouthwash bottles, food containers, furniture, technology, etc.). Due to this, not recycling plastic can lead to many problems in our environment. Recycling plastic promotes the conservation of energy and natural resources. It also contributes to the decrease of water and air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. To add, recycling plastic can save landfill space, or structure…

A Pineapple is a fruit wherein you have to peel off the peelings to eat it, like any other fruits. The researchers chose this as their project to prove that Pineapple peelings have other uses. The researchers also noticed that the families in our country are very practical nowadays. Instead of throwing the peelings away, many families can earn something from it by using our experiment. They can produce a product and maybe start a business or they can produce it for their own use. The researchers wanted to prove that nothing in this world is useless and peelings count as useful materials too, and can somehow help people to use their creative minds to make things possible out of such wastes.…

Tabil Æ Satyanarayan Panigrahi Published online: 4 January 2007 Ó Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2006 Abstract Studies on the use of natural fibers as replacement to man-made fiber in fiber-reinforced composites have increased and opened up further industrial possibilities. Natural fibers have the advantages of low density, low cost, and biodegradability. However, the main disadvantages of natural fibers in composites are the poor compatibility between fiber and matrix and the relative high moisture sorption.…

The pineapple is a tropical plant and fruit. It is an example of a multiple fruit: multiple, spirally-arranged flowers along the axis, each produce a fleshy fruit that becomes pressed against the fruits of adjacent flowers, forming what appears to be a single fleshy fruit. Pimeapples are the only eration fruit in widespread cultivation. It is one of the most commercially important plants which carry out Crassulacean acid metabolism or CAM photosynthesis.…

Abstract. Cassava peel is one of agricultural waste that abundantly found in environment. One approach to utilize this waste is to apply it as filler in natural rubber latex. In this work, the cassava peel waste (CPW) was powdered and dispersed in alkanolamide-water dispersion system to modify its surface. The amount of fillers used was 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 phr (part per hundred rubber) and loaded in natural rubber latex (NRL) formulation system. The products then were casted by dipping method after the NRL formulation was pre-vulcanized at 70oC. The observed parameter includes crosslink density, tensile strength, tensile modulus and elongation at break. The morphology of film was studied via Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results…
