Destruction In Percy Jackson's The Sea Of Monsters
Have you ever heard the story of the Bermuda Triangle, and how all boats that sail through it mysteriously disappear? Now imagine the reason all of those boats have been disappearing is because anyone who ventures through the deep sea is both lured and attacked by horrid monsters. Will Percy Jackson succeed in his quest like before, or will he fall another victim to the unrelenting area known as the Sea of Monsters? Though Percy Jackson, the half blood son of Poseidon, had once saved the world from destruction, lately he has been feeling less heroic. He has not had an encounter with a single monster the past entire year. However, all of this changes when the enchanted borders that protect Camp Half Blood are dissolving. As a result, hordes …show more content…
Through several facts and clues in the novel I believe the next part of the story will be about the retrieval of the Golden Fleece. I predict that Luke, the son of Hermes, will come and take the Magical Fleece after Percy and his friends have retrieved it from the island where the Cyclops lives. One of the reasons why I assume this to be true is because throughout his quest, Percy had felt like there was an evil presence skulking in the shadows and following his every move. Another reason that led me to this assumption was how when Percy and his friends escaped the boat that Luke had been entrapping them on; they felt as if he almost wanted them to. To support this further, Annabeth even said, “What we overheard him say about a gamble, and they’ll take the bait…I think he was talking about us”(Riordan 140). This may lead one to believe that Luke was hoping that Percy and his friends would do all of the hard work and then he could steal it from them. Finally, when Percy and Annabeth pulled up to the island of the Cyclops, Percy could have swore he saw another boat floating into the bay just as they were going over the peak of the hill. Consequently, Percy and his friends are in even more danger than they had previously planned for in the upcoming part of the novel. Additionally, another prediction that I have come up with for the upcoming portion of the novel is how the lord of the titans, Kronos, will be rebuilt and come to life at some point in the story. There are several hints and clues that have led me to this assumption. One of the first came while Percy and his friends were entrapped on Luke’s boat. Luke pointed to a gold sarcophagus and said, “He is reforming. Little by little, we’re calling his life force out of the pit”(Riordan 130). This may lead one to believe that what is inside the coffin must be something of true

After getting separated from Brecca by a storm, Beowulf battled sea monsters at night; by morning, "[the monsters] decided to sleep on the shore... their blood spilled out/ on the sand" (Raffel 2: 565-568). Not only did Beowulf voluntarily swim out into the ocean and fight monsters, but he did so for multiple nights, proving the extraordinary courage he demonstrated was not a fluke. Later, Beowulf once again demonstrated his extreme bravery when he entered the lake to fight Grendel's mother. This lake was described as radiating an evil so great that even "a stag with great horns... [preferred] to die/ on those shores, [refused] to save its life/ in that water" (Raffel 56: 435-438). No other man or beast was willing to enter this lake, to confront the evils within, except Beowulf. Without even the slightest hesitation Beowulf entered the lake, a true testament to his incomprehensible…

Imagine being a demigod and able to heal from water. That is what Percy Jackson can do in The Sea of Monsters. They obtained their demigod powers from their god or goddess parent. Percy Jackson and his demigod buds are descendents from greek god or goddesses. The Puritans would abhor the novel The Sea of Monsters due to characters disrespecting authority, having superhuman powers, and being self reliant.…

Once stated by Edith Hamilton, the author of the original myth “Perseus”, “The fullness of life is in the hazards of life.” (Hamilton). Meaning that you aren’t living unless you are truly face to face with death and risk. You are on edge and not cooped up afraid of going for something. And that is exactly what Perseus and Percy Jackson, two heroic figures, live up to. To that extent, “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan transforms the ancient legend of “Perseus” in a compelling, entertaining, and imaginative way through it’s craftsmanship of modernization, sequence of events, characters, and themes. The way in which the innovative retelling captures an audience is a direct statement of it’s creative remake based off the concrete foundation of the original copy produced centuries ago. Utmost, is the way in which the things of the past (a.k.a.-weapons, methods of communication, routine behaviors, etc.) were made present to fit in today's generation is quite an…

Percy Jackson is main character. He has lots of issues in school because he has a hard time reading and focusing on his schoolwork, and he's been kicked out of five schools already. Trust and Betrayal are probably the most important themes in the book. Percy has a hard time trusting people. He is dyslexic, has ADHD and always gets in trouble at school. Always being blamed for bad things made it hard for him to trust anyone. When he finds out Poseidon is his father and he tries to help him in situations, Percy was unsure how to deal with the help. He was upset that his father never had contact with him and only made himself known when he needed Percy’s help. Percy felt like he to get the lightning bolt back was using him. He also had to leave to trust his friends Annabeth and Grover. They got into many situations and they had to trust each other. One example is when they were in Denver and they meet up with Ares. He wants them to get his shield that he left in a water park. Because they weren’t aloud to say no to the God’s, they went. Percy and Annabeth went down into an empty swimming pool to get the shield while Grover stayed on top. Of course it was a trap, Hephaestus made a trap to catch his wife with Ares. Silky threads and spiders started attacking them. They had to trust each other to get them out of trouble. Annabeth hated spiders and the threads were raping around them like a net. Grover turned on the water and Percy had to trust Annabeth when they jumped out of the pool at the exact same time. Grover then came and grabbed them with his winged shoes. Another incident…

While watching the movie, I took notes on the similarities and differences between the movie and the book. In the movie, Percy Jackson is 16-years-old, in the book however, Percy was 12-years-old. Another comparison is the pearls. If you break a special pearl, it will lead you wherever you think in your head. In the movie, Percy and his friends – Grover and Annabeth – had to go across the USA finding the three pearls. This is so that once they…

Percy Jackson transforms from a Greek to a Roman and then decides to establish himself as Greek but with some Roman qualities. The other main characters in the novel look up to Percy as their hero for saving them from the wrath of Cronus and the Titans, while Gaea and her monsters conclude that he, not the gods, are their most feared enemy. Percy has many great strengths which include: combat, Language and communication Skills, ability to create earthquakes, hurricanes, and water. The character does not seem at all real considering the inhumane abilities they seem to possess and the fact that one of their parents is a god removes every possibility of this character to seem real. The character grows throughout the story as he is presented these situations that he must adapt to in order to survive and prevail and ultimately learns what it takes to succeed. I feel this character is essential to the defeat of Gaea and her monsters and without him they wouldn’t be able to do…

This man versus man story shows the theme because Percy encounters monsters that seem humans, but in the end they end up being monsters and causing trouble. “Standing behind us was a guy how looked like a raptor in a leisure suit, he was seven feet tall with absolutely no hair… he moved towards us slowly… I'm Crusty” (Riordan, 277). Percy, Annabeth, and Grover fight the obstacles (monsters) by looking out for each other because sometimes the monsters seem like regular people and blend into regular life. Percy hopes to fight against the monsters by teamwork…
