ABSTRACT

The successful running of any mass production depends upon the interchangeability to facilitate easy assembly and reduction of cost. So there is necessity of special purpose tools which are used to facilitate production operations like machining, assembling, inspection etc. Jigs and fixtures are designed to hold, support and locate the work piece to ensure that each part is machined within the specified tolerance. Use of jigs and fixtures is the simplest, easiest, fastest and most profitable method of manufacturing different components under mass production. In our project we have designed a jig to drill four holes on the given work piece of specific dimension. It reduces the time of machining, marking and locating problems. Skills are not required to use this jig. This jig can be used for mass production if used in a proper way. We took an CAST IRON FLANGE as work piece and plate jig has been designed to drill four holes on that work piece. This is a simple jig that we have designed and is a manual one. It is of less cost as well. As it is of considerably lesser weight it can be easily handled.
