Descriptive Essay
It was the strangest thing I had ever seen; with tubes and wires. I’m telling you this thing was freaky. In my town we are very old fashioned; we don’t like technology or any sort of thing like that. So, when my cousin from another state sent my family a gift such as this one, we just didn’t know what to do with it.
When we took it out of the box it had all these things attached to it. The box said ‘vacuum cleaner’, so automatically I knew it was meant for cleaning. I read the instruction manual, and all it said to do was plug it in and turn it on. There was this long, snake-like hose attached to the back, and I had no clue what it was for. Then, when I took it off, it began to suck things up! I mean the thing even ate the curtains for God sake.
Now let me figure out what’s going on with the bottom of this ‘vacuum cleaner’. It started to suck things up, and I’m telling you…when it went in it didn’t come back out. It surely does scare the dog. I guess it is true that dogs can sense evil.
“It’s over loaded,” my father was yellin', “turn that darn thing off already. It’s not a science experiment.” I believe he was wrong.
This thing they call a ‘plug’ isn’t like other kinds of plugs I’ve seen. It has three prongs, must be some heavy duty machinery. When I went to plug it in the wall, it choked me. It hurt. After that happened, I wasn’t about to go near it again. I shoved it back in the box, along with a letter to my cousin explaining how we loved her thoughtfulness, but we just couldn’t accept the

My fear of the cleaner was so intense, I managed to get my sister to be terrified of it too. We both would observe its pathing around the pool, what days my grandfather would take it out for maintenance, and pray for the occasion when our mother would join us in our aquatic arcadia so that we could enjoy ourselves in safety. Seeing this off-white beast would fill me with adrenaline and send me into what seemed like a panic attack, especially during its moments of attempting to entangle me in its spine-like tail or when it would climb the walls of the pool with witchcraft and spray water from the aforementioned tail that I avoided as if it possessed corrosive properties. The fear of the cleaner persisted with me for years at that pool, until it began to die off once I started to become more busy with things such as school as I got older and had less and less time for…

The dog yapped wildly as its owner slowly spoke. Her voice was fairly unique, in that it was both squeaky and deep, like a distorted teenager going through puberty. The dog, however, was the usual garden variety mutt you can find digging through trash all over the country. His fur was mostly white, with brown streaks of indeterminate origin. I sat on an old couch that had most likely been passed down generation to generation, with each tear and rip being covered up with duct tape. The couch was less of a couch and more of a duct-tape based art piece at this point. The room itself was straight out of some post-apocalyptic version of the Seventies. A shag carpet, which at one point was probably one color, was what I was nervously resting my…

I was exposed to Crossfit while I was stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany. Most people take a look at a posted workout or video, of elite Crossfit athletes and get intimidated or scared. “When you smoke herb, it reveals yourself to you,” is a famous quote of the pothead and marvelous musician Bob Marley. He felt as though marijuana helped tune in with your inner being. I believe cannabis that cannabis does this too and therefore have become a habitual marijuana consumer. Being in tune with ones inner being is important, yet not the reason that I smoke cannabis. The cannabis plant is beautiful, from the leaf to the buds you smoke. I love the ‘highs’ from smoking marijuana, and last but not least, I love how I can function while ‘high’. The summary is that little nuggets of joy have been crucial in making me who I am now, and I am grateful for everything marijuana has brought.…

Upon opening my eyes as I wake up I stretch while taking a glance at the cursing clock that seems to hate me. I call my clock that because every day it seems as if it wants to wake me up at a later time each day. Than as my thoughts start to gather I realize that it’s the weekend, which means I can finally relax. I told myself that once the weekend comes I need to go get my nails done and finally relax and release all the stress and tension. In my mind a day of relaxation is a day at the salon where you walk in and seem to be all smiles, even with knowing that there is the most numbing smell and the extensive and prolonged filing that the nail artists seems to do.…

Survival is the act of surviving; to endure or live through an affliction, adversity, misery, etc. The word survives is of the Latin origin from the word Supervīvere super- (over, beyond) and –vīvere (to live). The phrase survival of the fittest was used in the seventeenth century to replace Darwin’s term natural selection, “to kill or be killed”. Although the term survival has various meanings, in reference to Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, survival is used a verb to describe the act of surviving. Katniss enters the hunger games as a volunteer, and is expected to fight until death, and if she so happens to survive she and her family will go to live in Victor’s Village.…

Italy, a gorgeous country shaped like a boot, is one of the most beautiful places one can visit. I recently vacationed in Italy, and never gave my eyes the chance to take a break from the beautiful scenery: from the ongoing gorgeous landscape to the remarkable architecture. My family and I really enjoyed our little time in Italy, between visiting our loud and obnoxious extended family to tasting and smelling amazing Italian cuisine. Vacationing in a different country is a remarkable experience, so many different things to see and experience, different foods to taste and smell, and new a language to envelop.…

There are not too many sunny days in the winter like today. It’s a little bit chilly, but nothing unusual for the weather in December. Stepping outside the house and going to take the Oath of Allegiance, in order to become a citizen, the fresh cold air clears my head and worries. I look for as many details as I can capture. The first thing that draws my attention is a clear blue sky. Its color is so pure that it almost looks unreal. A few clouds spread around the sky forming interesting shapes. On the horizon a vapor trail of an airplane draws a perfect straight line. The bright sunshine makes me squint. A cold wind occasionally whips around and causes me to shiver. I go inside of the car to get some cover. As I lean on the seat to get more comfortable, I start driving and I continue to look outside.…

I go everywhere with it and when I don’t have I always feel like something is missing. It helps me bring my creative side to life and gives me just the shot I am looking for. It is heavy and sometimes a pain to carry but the weight is worth it for the end results. It has endless settings that I can adjust to achieve what it is I am trying to create.
