Writing Activity # 5 : Description of a Mechanism

Pen

A pen (Latin: penna, feather) is a writing implement used to apply ink to a surface, usually paper, for writing or drawing. Historically, reed pens, quillpens, and dip pens were used, with a nib dipped in the ink. Ruling pens allow precise adjustment of line width, and still find a few specialized uses, but technical pens such as the Rapidograph are more commonly used. Modern types also include ballpoint, rollerball, fountain, and felt or ceramic tip pens. A pen is a type of instrument used in writing that is a very important thing for a student or for a worker. A pen can be an arrow for a native and a crayon for a toddler.

The three basic parts of a pen are the base, the cap and the case. In these three parts, the base is the most important part, this is where the plastic case for the ink is attached, the ink is also there and the point where the ink goes out. The second one is the cap, the cap is composed of plastic or metal, it usually protects the ball point from being damaged. The last one is the case, this is where all the first part and second part located. The case is attached at the base to encase the plastic case for the ink. The cap is attached also to the base.

In having this kind of instrument, wherever we go, we always see it and use it. The pen is an writing instrument that can be a companion to a student who always writes and a companion also to a worker who always signs many papers.

Once, called away to an unanticipated school conference, I began drafting my short noticed speech with a yellow wooden pencil. Unfortunately this graphite loaded, eraser-tipped writing spear has become an alienated object as I readily admit my dependence on a new technology of writing. I found that I had become so used to composing virtual prose that I could no longer draft anything coherent directly onto a piece of paper. It wasn’t so much that I couldn’t think of the words, but the deliberate physical effort of handwriting, crossing out, revising, cutting and pasting was much too tedious. The writing practices that I had been engaged in regularly since the age of four, now seemed to overwhelm and constrict me as I longed for the flexibility of digitized text.…

Robert Pattinson once said "if you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads". This helps explain the importance of reading and writing. Writing has multiple different categories such as to entertain, to inform, and to help someone. How a person writes can also tell you a lot about the person themselves and how they perceive information and the world around them.…

Different types of writing have been around for thousands of years, but technology and its style of writing has only been around for about twenty. Almost everybody I know uses technology to write, whether it's texting, tweeting, or instant messaging. Our great ancestors didn't have technology to write with. It was ink and paper. But with the tablets and laptops, you can type books instead of writing them. Soon, in the future, there will be no need for paper, pencils or ink.…
