Any concern is discussed with the child if they are of appropriate age and with the parents/carer , the childcare provider would then hope to get their agreement in order to make a referral to social services via carrying out a Common Assessment Framework (CAF), unless it is felt the discussion would place the child at risk of harm. If, after this discussion there are still concerns then the CPLO would make a referral to the Children’s team and carry out a CAF without the consent of the parent/carer.…

Questions are always asked within one self what the right steps are in taking precautionary measure in protecting a child from harm. I myself feel as a childcare provider a child’s safety is much more important than anything in this world. Mandated reporters are individuals and professionals who are required to have a report made when, in the ordinary course of their employment or profession, they have reason to believe that a child under the age of 18 has been abused, neglected or is placed in a risk of serious harm by anyone which can include guardians or even staff members of their own establishment.…

Child Protective Services (CPS) is a complex system of assessments, investigations, and conclusions. CPS is the central agency in each communities child abuse and neglect service system. It is responsible for ensuring that preventative, investigative, and treatment services are available to children and families endangered by child abuse and neglect. As a result, CPS workers must perform a variety of functions when responding to situations of child maltreatment and play a variety of roles throughout their involvement with child protective clients. According to Jane Waldfogel, a writer for Child Welfare, about three million children were reported to the CPS in 1997, a more than fourfold increase over the number reported just 20 years earlier. In our society today, with increased violence and agitation the number has risen dramatically again. SHE ALSO…
