Describe Your Town

My hometown is Lahore. I was born in Lahore and I like it a lot. Lahore is a very important city in Pakistan because it is the capital city of the largest province in Pakistan. Right now I am living in my hometown and I wish live over here for the rest of my life.
Lahore is a very big city with wide and beautiful roads. Lahore is also regarded as the educational hub of Pakistan as there are many educational institutes in Lahore. Lahore also has its significance for the fact that it was a very important city during the Mughal period. People who visit Lahore can easily agree to the fact that it has very rich cultural heritage. There are many gardens, historical buildings and museums in Lahore. Another thing which is very special about Lahore is its food industry, there are many different restaurants which are offering different kinds of food.
I have been to many cities in this world, but still I regard Lahore to be the most beautiful city amongst all. Last month I went to Dubai and everybody knows that hw beautiful it is, but still I was keen to return to my hometown. There is so much greenery in Lahore whereas I was not able to find enough in Dubai. I think that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Through December 5th through the 7th, I performed in Thornton Wilder's play of Our Town. The only sets or props that the actors or actresses used where folding chairs for us to sit in, umbrellas to hide Emily (Julie Dumbler), and flats on both sides of the stage to hide the people behind them. The reason for the lack of set is so the audience can use there imagination of what the town of Grover's Corner, New Hampshire looks like. All the rest of the props that the actors had to use were pan mimed and acted out to the fullest to make it look real. The only other experience with no set was with Miss Henery in Neodesha and it was a disaster so I didn't know how well this was going to work out. But with the help of our director Peter Ellenstein and the rest of the cast, the pan miming was very successful. Our performance space was a modified thrust stage. The shape of the stage served us well for this play, but the back stage was horrible. All of the chairs that we had to use were folding chairs that made a lot of noise even if you hardly touched one. One neat thing about the play is that all of the sound affects were made by our backstage manager (Lisa Mitchell) or other members of the cast. In exception for the clock chiming at the end of the play. People who have seen the play tell me that it is a very heart moving play. I did not get that feeling because I was always backstage or onstage. Ether way I didn't get to watch the play so I couldn't see what was so moving about it. The only humor I got was from lines and the funniest person I heard was Professor Willard (Gary Mitchell). The audience is led through the entire play by the Stage Manager (Cory Venable). He literally talks to the audience between every scene explaining what is going on in the story. I thought Mr. Wilder did a good job in having a Stage Manager do this. The Stage Manager tells and shows us a story a young girl growing up and facing death, even after death. He show us how Emily…

The play “Our Town” explores the lives of people (primarily two families) living in a small and quiet American town in the 1900’s. In the first act entitled “Daily life”, the narrator did a good job of guiding the audience’s imagination to set up the ideas of a town in the early 1900’s. The lighting and sound cues made that very successful. The lighting was on cue and was very good at setting the scenes (i.e. brighter for morning sunrise). Realistic sets and props were minimal but, the performers pantomimed the majority of the play. The performers did a good job of conveying the imagery use of cooking, opening doors, and eating food. The performers were so believable that your imagination wasn’t very hard to use because things came to sight as if it was really on stage. The costumes of the performers set the age of the play and made you believe that you were in an earlier day and age. In act one, you follow the lives of the Gibbs family and the Webb family. Dr. Gibbs appears hardworking and is soft-spoken. Mrs. Gibbs is good in portraying that her husband is overworked and should take a vacation. Rebecca is George’s little sister. George seems scared or nervous in the delivery of his lines. There is many long pauses before he speaks as if he has forgotten his lines. He wasn’t enthusiastic at all. George seems not to understand or express the character's motivation. In the Webb family, Mr. Webb is great in the delivery of his lines. Mrs. Webb portrays a strict but loving mother. Emily Webb their daughter is very bright and hopeful. Wally Webb is her younger brother. When Emily and George are talking to each other at their windows, he seems to forget his words. Without a stellar Emily, the emotional potential is lost. The cast seems as if it was dead before act three of the funeral. Act two is about love and marriage. This scene reflects the love between George and Emily. In act two, Emily rises as the star of the play. She is very clear in her words and motivated.…

In the play "Our Town", by Thornton Wilder, a character by the name of Simon Stimson makes a very insightful statement about people and their lives. Simon is dead and buried, as well as several of the play's other characters, when a newly-dead young woman named Emily joins their ranks and begins to realize the triviality and ignorance of her existence, as well as that of every living person. The dead are discussing this insignificance and unawareness of the living when Simon comments with disgust on how much living persons waste their life, asserting, "To spend and waste time as though you had a million years." In this statement, Simon is referring to the degree of which people take their lives for granted. People are often so busy and so consumed by relatively minor matters that they never stopped to realize how truly special everything is. They go about their days following strict schedules and routines, always rushing about to meet their many obligations, and never take the time to simply cherish even the small things. Most people wake-up in the morning, rush about to leave for school or their jobs, work or learn all day, only to come home and have yet more obligations to take care of, never once taking time out to stop and enjoy things for themselves. Simon is referring to the daily routines and events the consume people's lives as a waste of time, for they do not realize how genuinely short their lives are. Simon is upset with people for never taking time to admire the beauty that surrounds their lives, never cherishing the time they have with others, and even being ignorant of life's small pleasures, such as fresh clothes and hot baths.
