Describe The Differences Between France And Spain
Spain: There were three San Ildefonso treaties that ceded land back and forth between Spain and France. In the third and final San Ildefonso treaty, Spain ceded the Louisiana territory back to France due to Spain disregarding the territory as the result of the decline of the Spanish empire. France desired an American empire that would bring great power. This treaty was kept a secret between the two countries in fear of the British taking over the land. Spanish forces would leave the area unprotected since France would take months to send troops to secure the land from enemies.
