Descartes Third Meditation Essay

Descartes Principle In the Third Meditation, Descartes believes that he is was created by God and God is an infinite being. He mentions as one of his proofs that “there must be at least as much formal reality in the cause of an idea as there is objective reality in the idea itself.” Many people would not know what this means. It means that anything that causes an idea must be at least as actual as what the idea is about. For example, if i have an idea that my house is red, the cause of my idea would have to be at least actual as a red house. He believes in that quote as a proof because thats what he uses for his argument that he was created by God. He knows God is infinite and nothing more than God. He uses “I” as his thing. Therefore from this proof that there must be a thinking thing having that idea. That is how he proves his own existence in Meditation 2. That is principle he gains knowledge of himself. So how does he gain knowledge of God existing? He uses the same pattern as he does in Meditation 3 to prove God is his creator. That is how he believes what he believes in Meditation 3 from the proof of Meditation 2. The premise is the thing that represents something and the conclusion must be something causing that idea. I believe on his proofs of himself existing and God existing. I believe it because believe God is real. It is just plain and simple as that. I do not believe in the evolution topic and I am not an atheist so i believe God exist and is my creator. Also, it makes sense on what he saying because it is all in your thought. If you think that infinite being thought God was real than he will be real. But you are thinking that so your idea is true and actual. Which concludes God exists. To me it is all in the head and the thoughts of what you believe. It depends on the person and what they believe. It is an idea coming from their head and what they think.
