Dentistry Personal Statement
Experience and challenges of life have indeed made tremendous impact in my quest for excellence in dentistry and an impactful endeavor. Writing about me is not an easy thing to do, with humility being one of my virtues. I will however try to give an inkling of my personality, my views about life and what my future goals are as vividly and yet as conservatively as possible.
The foundation of my character lies in the belief that my actions should always be consistent with my ethical values. This belief has always been a guide to my actions. Honesty, perseverance, trustworthiness, fairness, respect, loyalty and excellence are some of my other valued virtues. Most of these were impacted on me early in life by my parents (both teachers) and I have tried to follow their simple guidelines throughout life. Character being an ever-evolving quality, is shaped by the choices that we make. The choice to undertake a residency training program in dentistry, I am sure will have a positive influence on my character.

I dislike uncertainty and incompetence. This belief has been the motivation for my educational goals and the drive for my achievements in life. After my completion of medical training in Nigeria, I worked in several clinical settings ranging from a teaching hospital to a community health center for a little over two and a half years. The broad knowledge base required of an internist and the concept of "caring for the whole patient" stimulated my interest in internal medicine. I also came to realize that a lot could be done to improve the outcome of medical practice. Good training coupled with a personal commitment is essential for delivery of qualitative and compassionate medical care in a humane manner - this has always been my aspiration.
