Dental Implant Loss
Introduction:
Despite the high successful rates of restoring the missing tooth with dental implants, complications and implant loss can occur.
Peri-implantitis is a bone destructive process affecting the tissues surrounding dental implants(Mombelli 2002).
Pathogens found in peri-implantits around affected implant were similar to pathogen found in periodontal disease.(Cortes et al. 2012)
Many factors can affect the success of dental implants. systemic health, oral hygiene , remained pathogens and habits can all play a crucial role in the success of dental implants as a restorative to the missed tooth. Furthermore, the peri-implantitis prevalence in population will vary depending on the scale of bone loss and probing depth baseline used for case (Heitz-Mayfield & Mombelli 2014) .
The majority of studies were of cross-sectional design, Longitudinal observations require a lot of work ,time and proper multi-center study and are difficult to perform.information provided by cross sectional studies depends on number of cases at a certain given time(the prevalence of a disease).
While information about the incidence ; the number of new cases in a given time time period, , studies describing epidemiology of periodontal diseases predominantly report prevalence rather than incidence data (Eke et al. 2012).
A lot of meta analysis had been performed to count the prevalence of per-implantits ,despite the fact of how strong the evidence can be obtained from meta-analysis studies , Heterogeneity across studies and Risk of bias across studies may not well
